Weddings: First dance song?

After hearing Etta James' "At Last" for the umpteenth time at a friend's wedding recently and speaking to a another friend (a chick) who wants Lone Star's "Amazed" <shudder>...

For the married and the married to-be folks here, what was your first dance song?
Was it your choice or your (overbearing) spouse's?
Do/Did you choose the song based on lyrical content, a mutual/personal meaning, or optimally both?

Just scrap the "first dance" crap. When thinking of the prospect of needing to take dancing lessons, my wife and I looked at each other and knew there was no way we were going to deal with that. The less crap you have to plan for at the wedding, the easier it will go and the happier everyone will be. More things to plan means more things that could go wrong, and therefore means the more likely your wife will freak out. Not fun.

But if you insist on having one, may I suggest the unedited version of "Closer" from Nine Inch Nails? "I want to f%^& you like an animal. I want to feel you from the inside." Great way to set the mood for what will happen later that night...

We had almost only dancing at our wedding. During the cocktail party, the dinner, even way after the wedding, we were out after-partying until the morning. I understand there was all sorts of good foods catered but I can't say I ate much of it. The best food I had that night was a chicken kebab at 6am on the sidewalk after the after-party

The whole first dance is cheesy. We didn't have one. But I'd definitely go to a wedding if there's going to be a first ****. "From This Moment On" is another one I've heard over and over. Shania gives me wood. I'd go with "I'll Make Love To You" Very CLASSY! Girl relax, let's go slow I ain't got nowhere to go I'm just gonna concentrate on you Girl are you ready, it's gonna be a long night

Who said you have to take dancing lessons to have a first dance? Just pick a song you both like and walk on the dance floor with your brand new wife. I would hope that by the age you get married, you would be secure enough to just hold a woman in your arms and move your feet to the music without caring about whether your dancing technique is good or not... No one gives a flying one about your dancing skills...

I wish you could have explained to my wife that no one cares about our dancing skills (or lack there of). Ironically, once she got a couple drinks in her that night, she didn't seem to care. Ah, the finer points of women.

our first dance was to Sinatra's "Always", immediately followed by the band (3 Bad Jacks) who played our next 'first dance' which is a song called "It's Forever" that they wrote which happens to be "our song"

the rest of the nite was our friend DJing 50s R&B/rockabilly/60s soul and everyone jitterbuggin it up
