My God, this thread has gone further off than I could have imagined. Hitler . . . Nazis . . . the French . . . politics . . . geography . . . I dont know whether to be proud or aghast.
I'm going to reply to a few of the posts that I havent already covered:

Very good question. I honestly cant say, it would depend on what it in my closet at the time. I would certainly pick the least-loud (is there a better way to say that) suit/blazer I own, or perhaps even buy something specific to the occasion. But regardless of the setting, I am still going to look like me, so there would still be some element of my style in the outfit. Given the overhaul my closet is going through at the moment (selling/buying/giving away a lot of stuff) I cant even say if there's something appropriate in there at the moment. I have gotten rid of my flashiest suits, because I no longer desire to wear them, but I have also gotten rid of the most conservative ones, because they no longer fit.

He either gets ridiculed amongst the people he is around in real life..by dressing more traditionally...or he gets ridiculed in a forum for how he dresses to fit in.
You're very close. Ridiculed isnt the issue. I rarely get ridiculed in person for my clothes (it has happened, when my style was louder), and if/when I do, it doesnt bother me. But when you are on stage/tour/TV with a major industry group, you HAVE to wear a certain style they find appropriate. It's not a matter of laughing at someone who doesnt fit in, it's a matter of "when we're done with rehearsal, go buy an appropriate outfit, or dont come to the gig." The jeans in the "pony shoes" picture were purchased for me by an artist when I showed up for an LA recording with church clothes, and the dress code was "upscale urban". Several years later and they're still my favorite jeans. But whatever I wear will be appropriate to the style of the artist/group, but will also have my own flavor. What you see in the pictures is similar to several of the groups I play for.

He came in saying "This is me" and when people didn't believe him, he said "I'll prove it to you" and made this thread. When people told him what was wrong with his clothes and how he could look nicer, all he said was "This is all deliberate, I'm not looking for attention, you guys just didn't believe me, so there."
This is pretty much on point, thank you for that.
Perhaps of note is how I found these forums. I was searching the web for the pony shoes, attempting to find some other styles by that manufacturer I had seen in stores but not online. For some reason, this forum came up. I poked around, replied to a few threads, but couldnt find anything on the pony shoes. SOooooo . . . I made a thread about them. By this point I had read enough of the forums to include my disclaimer, but I was still shocked to learn NO ONE HERE LIKES THE PONY SHOES!!! Wow, everyone that's ever seen them in person loves them. I figured I'd get a mixed response, some love, some hate. But what I got was primarily hate and disgust.
The thing is, I dont just love my style, I love clothes in general. I have two closets full, 30 suits, 50 blazers, 50 pair of shoes, and so on. And I have the acquired knowledge that goes with buying, owning and meticulously wearing so many clothes. So I continued to hang around the forums, intending to learn some things, contribute some things, pick up some new style ideas, and maybe convert one or two people to like what I like.
This thread was posted because
1. It was requested
2. I love myself and love pictures of myself
3. I love my clothes and love pictures of my clothes.
So, really, only the very first post, the one with the pictures, was for me. I didnt need all of the responses, although I expected some to be funny. I still didnt expect COMPLETE disagreement-- I thought there would be one or two guys out there who have a similar style to me, as in person I encounter several. I replied to as many of them as I could, as I didnt want to be one of those guys who posts, doesnt get the reaction he wants, and then disappears. I still plan to hang around, after all of this has died down some
And I havent seen Napolean Dynamite . . . isnt there something about tater tots? The Woman's nickname for me is Tater, which I hate. Wow, probably shouldnt have broadcasted that . . .
