I haven't seen many gray shoes, and never being worn. I have seen JL Pewter in action, and it didn't stand out too much. I think true gray would be more noticeable.

I like the button boots and would wear them with a heavy weight suit. However, it think it would be a dreadful process to get in and out of them.

I've seen light grey worn and it looked awful, even though the gent was wearing a suit similar in color.

The JL Pewter is darker, looks nice on the shelf, and probably would look okay paired with the right suit. Although I like the Pewter shoes I've seen, I can't see myself buying shoes in that color.

count me in the "grey ain't so nice" group. These JL Ascots in deep grey August never see any action:

The color does not photograph easily:

I would wear dark grey shoes with a mid-grey suit, not unlike how boulevardiers of the fin-de-siecle used to dress in varying shades of grey. I'd call the outfit "Cloud" worn with a pair of colorful blue celluloid eyeframes.

I'd have to see them , but I think they might work with a morning coat and striped pants, though they're probably not 'technically' appropriate.

Other than that, God no.

Although I like the shoes in the pic, your statement is why I can't see myself purchasing the color.

Back in the Eighties, I bought a pair of medium gray captoes at Wilkes Bashford in San Francisco, which were certainly (at full price, which I paid) the most expensive non-exotic pair of shoes I bought in my twenties, and I will admit they were a tricky match with clothing. But I would certainly buy gray shoes again at the right price -- I enjoy variety.

This gray does seem hard to match; I was thinking charcoal...

I have to agree, though it kills me to, with this assessment.
