i believe the ones with the metal tag are older. Â the ties that i bought in rome from their botique (two years ago) didn't have them...

I've seen Santostefano ties that have the metal keeper separate, and ones with them sewn into the back. I've also seen them with a separate piece of silk to keep the tie in place.
