This week's challenge is classical menswear : a suit (or SC/blazer & trouser), shirt, tie or PS or both, are mandatory.
But at the heart of the challenge, there is the cane or walking stick.
In France, since the 19th century, we have a way to define a gentleman : un Monsieur avec une canne et un chapeau…
The hat is optional, but not the cane...

THE ENTRIES

Doubles as a flute; it was a gift to my grandfather (who was a flautist)

As the rules of this Friday Challenge do not require the picture be from this week, here's a picture from March, taken in a shop on La Brea Avenue.

I was trying for the "Mr. Peanut" pose, but since it was a furniture shop, I couldn't find a top hat or monocle, just a stick.

Hope an umbrella is working :

Quite by accident (in several senses of the word), I have yesterday's photos from WAYWRN that qualify.

Since umbrellas were allowed, and since it's actually umbrella weather in Stockholm today:

Bad picture due to times of darkness in the North. Also, I didn't wear a tie so that might be a problem.

In, because I have more of these things than you can shake a stick at (!) and because of @Clouseau

We went for a walk at the Club - Robert Adam Bridge (1756)

Off duty cane. Bought it in Looe, Cornwall in the mid-70s.

I've only owned one cane in my life, but I have absolutely no idea where it's at, last saw it ~20 years ago when I got it as a graduation gift. In other words, I'm out.

INSPIRATION Alex in the Chelsea Drugstore... SO WHO WILL BE THE NEXT CITIZEN CANE ? DEADLINE sunday 27th november evening. The poll will be up monday morning, France local time.
I have to chip in here. Just how many of my personal heroes can you get into a single post? :D (OK, I mean F Scott Fitzgerald in the case of the top pic, and Anthony Burgess in the case of the two pics of Alex, and I guess 'heroes' isn't quite it either... Oh shut up, M-o-M!) And you ought to be caned for 'Citizen Cane'! :D

Would an umbrella qualify? Otherwise, the real challenge would be explaining for everyone why I'm using a cane.

Do you have to explain the use of a traditional gentleman accessory ?

OK Shen, an umbrella will do the trick - for you, if it has a cane shape.

In England the cane received an unexpected boost in the mid 1960s thanks to its adoption as an essential accessory by the Mods. Gill Evans, an Original Modernist, recalls how the guys used to dance with their canes.

Here is Del Evans in the mid 60s with cane and four button suit.

Monsieur, I just wonder, given the holiday in America, whether this challenge might run for two weeks - especially as it started late in the week anyway?

I would like to have the advice of other members about that...
For the moment, the deadline is still sunday evening.
