Some crazy good finds lately guys.

@noob in 89 I'm not familiar with the second author you mentioned, but I'm a huge DFW fan- He's one of my great influences as a writer and all around human being.

Over the last several weeks I came to realize that I was I was at something of a turning point in my life, and so in order to gather my thoughts and consider my next move I took a hiatus from thrifting. I won't go into details as they aren't relevant outside of my personal trajectory; suffice it to say that over the course of 4th of July weekend I decided to make thrifting and ebay resale a bigger part of my life going forward. The correspondence of Independence day and my own gambit for independence through the very American pursuits of capitalist venture and self-determination is not lost on me, and the events of my first real foray along this path proved to be truly symbolically unusual. I may go into more depth re. the particulars in a future blog post.

I set out on my circuit earlier than unusual, jittery with the nerves that come with not knowing how the day will break. I stepped into my first store, made my way back to the shoes, and scanned all the way to the last rack. I only found one thing. No spoilers:

Black pebblegrain alden longwings, footjoy soles. Pretty much completely perfect, almost nwob. 10 E, available to the motivated.

Shocker, this woke me right up. I grabbed a loose cart and hit the jackets, feeling the last of my 4th of July hangover fading as I pried apart a mass of windbreakers in pursuit of glimpsed red, white and blue.

I defy anyone to produce a more patriotic garment than this one.

The fleece to end all fleeces.

Made in USA, of course. Double layer.

Not. Available. God bless America!

One of the only tailored garments this expedition produced was a Zegna soft sportcoat, a Zegna diffusion most around here dismiss, but my oh my what a jacket:

90% wool, 10% cashmere, patch pockets, and supple leather patches just everywhere. Unvented, but who cares.

This was followed by a cornucopia of magnificent ties:

Zegna, Massimo Bizzoche, Rubinacci, brioni, Etro

RLPL England, New And Lingwood, BB Makers, BB basic, Roots buffalo check scarf, made in Scotland

Not pictured: ties from dunhill, burberry london, ferragamo, and j press.

All in all a superb shirt day:

Thomas Pink made in France graph check twill, gant rugger ez madras ocbd, BB Irish linen

NOS 5 Brother chamois, made in USA

BB Makers blue ocbd, fresh from the dry cleaners and nicely worn in.

Zegna Sport linen batik shirt, made in Italy. Really incredible texture and pattern on this one

E Zegna plum colored cotton jersey shirt, with cool, undercollar buttons.

Almost blew past this tropical print shortsleeve, but the label pinged something in my lizard brain and I went in for a closer look.

Pop! All cotton, wood buttons, made in Japan. Not available, as it is contributing to my now very strong summer shirts collection.

And a quick high fashion cherry on top for the bay: D&G (pop) purple cotton peak lapel blazer, made in Italy

Any thoughts on the maker?

About the records; there were a string of great american rock albums, but closer examination revealed that many of them to be pretty much beat to ****. I did pull some winners from the mix though.

All in all, my god, what a bizarrely American themed thrifting experience. Hopefully more good stuff to come in the next few weeks. Good luck out there gentlemen!

Not true thrift, but < 5% of retail, so sorta. Adriano Goldshmied selvage cone denim buckle-back jawnz. N/A.

Signed (producer, director, etc) and numbered limited edition hardback featuring the art of The Lion King (movie).

Lastly, any hunters in here? Found this incredibly thick silk tie by O'Connell Lucas-Chelf as well as a couple J Press bird designs. Avail if you swing a good 12 gauge. :D

Haven't been around this forum much lately due to work. I've mostly been lurking, so I wanted to apologize to people I owe PM's, I'll try to get back to everyone tonight.

Also, just found out one of my childhood dogs may have cancer (he's 8). So that sucks.
Hope he turns out ok, 8 is too young.

That logo was used up til 1960-61.

Code #5785 was from '56 to '61 after that it changed to #5765. And then for a few years the 5th Avenue was only offered in black.

I heard a voice in the racks:
"Use the thrift"...
"What? Should I consult the great Samsung?"
"NO! Feel the dopeness... use
...The Thrift!"

And then some hotness for Mrs. Ripper:

Discount stores like the Rack and Off Fifth, may operate under the same umbrella, but they have completely different buy teams, planners, merchandisers, marketing teams etc.. Thus their pricing may differ or in this case surpass the other because it's multiple entities working separately, marketing separately and pricing separately. For example, during market weeks or at shows like Magic, there are buyers there from both Saks as well as Saks Off Fifth, talking to the same vendors but negotiating completely different purchase orders, ones that best suit which branch they work for....orrrr that could just be a **** up.
