So I'm looking to meet up with new businesses and went online for a smart two piece suit to look sharp. Of course being new to this sort of thing I'm learning quite a bit about sizes.

I get the size sorted and look for an appropriate suit. I find one I like and hastily buy due to only a few left in stock. Then I check around a bit and notice it doesn't state I get the shirt and tie and I'm quite frankly annoyed at the possibility.

Guys - is it normal when buying a suit that you get the shirt included? Because if not, that, to me, is false advertising and not legal. I've read all the wording and the FAQ but not found anything.

The suit in question is http://www.moss.co.uk/dehavilland-re...suit-965117809. The reason I'm paranoid about this is under the "Complete the look" tab, I see the very same tie it comes with. However, it doesn't show the blue shirt! So it's very confusing. Anyone have any experience with this?

Much appreciated, thanks.

I really do think that you are making something out of nothing and wasting everyone's time. I am not sure if you are naïve or this is :spam:

The suit is crap and I really do not see why you want to burn money on it - each to his own though. It will not impress anyone bar a vagrant. The shirt/tie are extra as is made clear and the mere fact that the model is wearing it does not suggest it is in the sale: That is for a SUIT.

It is not normal to get shirt/tie/socks/underwear thrown in and it is difficult to see how you expect this. I would not consider there to be anything wrong with this advertisement save those that misread it.

How rude and aggressive you are. Wow, you're asking for an online argument and I'm not here for that.

Having read the wikipedia page on the definition of a suit, it is quite clear the shirt and tie are separate (not included) but are commonly used with them.

Partly the reason why I wasn't 100% sure was due to the fact that the 'Complete the look' tab didn't show the blue shirt. So I suspected that's because the shirts included and they offer alternative shirts to mix and match. They did show the blue tie though, which was the reason I had doubts about the tie and shirt being included.

However, replying in an aggressive tone and suggesting my choice is an idiotic one is simply asking for an argument online. This is my first post to this forum and really disappointed to come across a troll so early on. What a shame, I hope this is just one of few members who are as aggressive and offensive here.

At risk of piling in on a conversation I'm not qualified to comment on, I'd like to make a few comments:

  • The reason the suit you have linked is unimpressive is, it is made out of polyester. This is not a material most people aspire to - you should probably hold out for wool. Believe it or not, most people who wear suits can tell when a suit is polyester because they are shinier and too hard to wrinkle - they always look shiny and new, and don't drape around the body in a natural way.
  • Suits almost never come with a shirt, tie, et cetera. If that one did, it'd say somewhere on the page.
  • Modeling shots for every kind of clothes contain other clothes to complete the impression. Look at a site selling tee shirts, and you'll notice that the models are wearing pants. I don't think most people are shocked when they buy a shirt and don't get pants.

GBR:
My sincerest apologies that I didn't consult you before my purchase. I hope you can forgive me on my idiotic ways. You are the most wise man I have met and even your humble presence fills me with ecstatic joy. The earth is forever grateful for your presence, and the styleforum would be nothing but a messy organisation of data on a spinning, lonely hard drive. You are the weaver of all wisdom and knowledge, your fingertips the conductor of true meaningful signals.

Even as I fumble around trying to desperately do you justice with words, the powerful force that is your presence is making me dizzy and I feel the need to throw myself out of my window so that my body will become more organised, in your view, of a splat of mush on the concrete.

May I be dead by the time you reply next, for you are greater than us all and not worthy of your words. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

Ah, an actual nice reply! So there are nice people here. Appreciate your reply. I see why some people may think the suite is unimpressive. Well it's ordered now and I quite like the idea of buying a shirt of my choice anyway. I did like that tie though.

What was confusing though, and I made this point earlier, is the 'complete the look tab' didn't show the blue shirt (they showed white shirts..) which is a bit rubbish.

I think your perception of GBR's reply is much more unpleasant than reality - and in any case, your response was much, much nastier. I don't really want to get involved with that part of the conversation, but I think at this point it can safely be dropped. Trashing someone who gave you advice isn't likely to make friends, OK?

Regarding the "complete the look," those are a crapshoot on most sites. Somewhere on an American retail site I saw one of those which mated a brown suit with buckskin-colored shoes and a black belt. Stupidest suggestion possible short of adding a baseball cap and some spats. Bottom line is, be careful who you take fashion advice from, and a retail website is a place to be very suspicious indeed.

I suggest you wear your new suit as soon as possible once you receive it, and decide if you can live with the drape and the shininess while you're still inside the window to return it.

Thanks dappertimes

I've been reading a bit more. I'm only going to use the suit about 30 times a year, so I was looking for something cheap and this fits the bill. However, as I've been reading more, it looks as though there's a huge percentage of people saying that polyster is really bad for suits. This does make me worry. What's confusing is that I've seen a quite nice jacket (on its own) from M&S and it's 100% wool and only £48 http://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-super-100s-wool-flannel-stripe-suit-jacket-grey/p44231 which isn't far off from the suite I purchased.

Thoughts?

I appreciate your reply, but I think you've got the wrong end of the stick regarding my comments. I posted a comical reply which, to be honest, with his aggressive tone was quite appropriate to lighten up the conversation. It's clear he was very offensive by calling my choice a 'crap' one. That's a very personal remark and not one that warrants a serious response.

Regarding the combination - I chose it because I liked it out of many I was browsing. It's good that you suggest adding a dash of salt to retailers choices of combinations, but in this case, I really do like the combination for my particular situation I need it for.

Since then I've found a couple more suits at onl £10/£20 more and they are 90% wool, so I'll check out the one I've ordered first and see if it's appropriate. Thanks for the help.
