IMO I think the color of the shirt and the jacket are too matchy, creating a weird color contrast to the first half of the body.

Yeah I think a light cream or offwhite shirt would be better.

Blue top half overkill?

absolutely right. a tailor #@$@ it up. I was thinking removing 1 or 2 pair to the rear end, need to let this do.

thats a shame. i have noticed that a lot of the bogliolis have long sleeve lengths, which is is an easy fix if not for the pre-made functional cuffs.

i love the semi washed out look for summer SCs.

I am a fan of those washed out [summer] Boglioli type cotton jackets. And perhaps dude has short arms and this was the best he could do with the tailoring.

He said the tailor made a mistake and if they are not working buttonholes he can move a couple from the bottom to further up.
I'd suggest reading the posts properly.

Satin look tie is way too bright for that suit and tassel loafers look out of place (if that's what they are). Maybe a black and white houndstooth check wool or silk tie.

Like the top but bottom too casual. Needs a proper pair of creased trousers and less casual shoes (though not too formal either)

I like the colours, and you look like a guy who's probably fun to have a beer with. I agree with Henry Carter though, the bottom and top don't come together perfectly. I think that if you pressed the pants and hiked them up a bit (maybe they need some hemming?) this fit would look way better (+ I'd prefer darker shoes in this context).

@spectre if you don't mind me asking, who is your preferred custom tailor in Melbourne?

In own case, I'm still a "WAYWRN lurker" at the moment as I'm presently quietly refreshing (still a work in progress, now entering its second year) my bespoke wardrobe following period of significant and sustained weight loss.

Naturally, when I'm finished my wardrobe refresh I will post the results on SF and in the WAYWRN thread for feedback and improvement.

Unfortunately, my own bespoke tailor of nearly 30 years in Hong Kong recently left me down somewhat -- by not completing my orders on time while I was in Hong Kong and/or subsequent fit issues with garments eventually delivered. So, I'm now dealing with multiple garment fitting issues by post. A bit of a bespoke nightmare situation as you can well imagine. In any event, I'm persevering with my long time tailor and gradually starting to get the desired fits that I'd hope for. As I've commented elsewhere at SF -- "good things take time".



As I live across the ditch in Auckland, I was thinking of finding an alternative bespoke tailor closer to home in Melbourne. Mainly for historical and sentimental reasons, as my very first bespoke garment commission was my military service dress uniform custom made for me by the then Carbone Brothers of Melbourne. As a young man, during my military service years, I was a graduate of the Officer Cadet School of Australia at Portsea, near to the very picturesque town of Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsular at the entrance to Melbourne Harbour.

I gather the Carbone Brothers may have gone their own separate ways since and are now trading as rival businesses. So, any insights you can share with me, regarding the Melbourne custom tailor industry and the rival Carbone brother businesses, would be gratefully received and appreciated. Thank you.

I have used Patrick Johnson, with shops in Melbourne and Sydney, for the past few years. They travel interstate as well and are expanding rapidly.
It's not true bespoke (which is not necessarily better) but I can say that my very first order, a jacket, needed just on small adjustment - 1 cm let out in the waist. From then on there have been no alterations needed to jackets, pants or shirts.
As an aside I would add you can choose from various levels of finish, and cost, different shoulder treatments and so on.
Their style is generally understated but modern and sporty.

Do any Boglioli sport coats *not* have functioning buttonholes? The length of Boglioli sleeves is perfect for me, but if someone needs to shorten them by an inch or more, it is unfortunately not the brand for you. Conversely, LBM 1911 coats are 1-1.5 inches too short for me.
