The Gallup Poll asked, "Regardless of whether you will move, if you had the opportunity, would you like to move to another state, or would you rather remain in your current state?"

Half of those in Illinois want to move if they could, with 19% 'extremely likely' to move within the next 12 months. 26% of those leaving within the next 12 months do so for work/business, and 15% for quality of life reasons.

Illinois is a failed blue model midwestern hell. I can't wait to get out.

Maybe this belongs in CE?

Either way, it is tough to do this by state. If I lived in some bumfuck town in southern Illinois then yes, I would plan to move too.

Don't you think the state of Illinois is no less ****** than other midwestern states like Iowa or Missouri? And... if so, isn't it because of so much money being wasted through a corrupt government? Esp in Chicago?
I have spent a lot of time in Chicago, and I find it sad how far behind the city is in terms of public transport--and it is getting more and more expensive for a system that is getting older and older... The public school system is broke as well, schools closing, etc... Paid parking on Sundays, etc etc... It's not a good thing..

My wife and I are leaving illinois in the next 6 months. It is really amazing that it sucks so bad. So much potential, so squandered.

I have seriously considered moving to Detroit. Just that transferring my law license and my CCW is a pain **********. Their loss.

  • Taxes: Sales tax, property tax, gas tax, etc., all highest in the union.
  • The people: Tons of hipsters (the modern hippies), yuppies, thugs and sports nuts. Wish I had a Venn diagram here.
  • The girls: Without the Asian and European (and now Latina, I guess) foreign imports, the city would be hurting for selection.
  • Crime & Murder: Relatively confined to certain quadrants, so not a big deal--but for how long? Flash mobs were, for a time at least last year, commonplace on the beach and main shopping districts. And public transport sucks and is not safe. Also, a big homeless problem. Oh, and gang graffiti everywhere. And did I say crime is relatively confined? It isn't.
  • Politician/Unions/Corruption: We all know the score here. Not worth commenting on, only to say nothing's going to change until it collapses.

Not to say Chicago is not without charm or redeeming value. But is it worth it? If you're solidified in the upper strata, then yes, probably it is. But even then...

I grew up in Chicago and spent many years there and have no desire to ever go back. I'd take a ****** shared studio in NYC over a 3 bedroom in Chicago any day of the week.

Only good thing is some of the food (Alinea, Publican, etc). The girls are fat, there is no culture at all and the infrastructure is absolutely falling apart.
