If one more waitress, customer, anyone, calls me "hun" they're going to get hurt.

When did this start? The fifties? It needs to stop now! "Thanks hun" "Ok hun" "Let me get that, hun".

I'm not your "hun"!

End rant.

P.S. Is this some sort of diner thing?

If it is in a cafe or diner type joint, I find it charming. In a nice restaurant it is grating.

I was going to say, that there is classic Bawlmerese, hun. Grandparents grew up in the Locust Point area for any locals on the board.

I'm sure that whoever says it means it in an endearing way rather than as a jab or insult, so even if you don't like the particular word they use, know that they are just trying to be personable and friendly.

Jesus some people are assholes. How can you honestly complain about someone using a term of endearment to address you?

It's sort of a diner thing, but it extends to small restaurants/establishments in general. It's really the norm in more casual, non-trendy restaurants in Texas with all but the younger waitresses.

Just got back from the best sandwich place in town. The guy working has kind of a mr. clean/punk feel to him and he calls me "boss". It feels a bit contrived now but when he hits 40 I'm sure it'll fit perfectly.

Doesn't bother me. Lots of waitresses are twenty or thirty years younger than I am. Hun and Sweetie, sound pretty good.
What I can't stand, is when my cousins' children try to call me 'Uncle.'

What are you then? I grew up calling everyone Aunt and Uncle who was much older than me. I think it is tacky when kids refer to grownups by their first names.

I'm not their uncle. I have no nieces or nephews. I am their cousin. My first name is fine. Otherwise, they don't have to call me anything.
