I've been meaning to get some PBJ XX-005's for a while and was going to purchase them through Blue in Green, however randomly it seems like I'll be hitting Japan up in the beginning of July. I'm trying to figure out if its worth waiting until I get there to purchase them. Does anyone know the cost of these jeans in yen at the PBJ store? (ie what the markup is for the US market)

Thanks.

definitely better to get them in japan, plus you'll have the benefit of trying them on (assuming you're not near big)

yes they're considerably less expensive in japan
and as mentioned, you get to stand there and try on every single model to your heart's content ....

Look on rakuten, use www.xe.com to convert to US$, add $20-25 for shipping and then add 15% on top of that total for proxy fees. No stores there that carry PBJ ship to the US so you have to use a proxy here(parachutes) or on sufu(parachutes and 1 or 2 others). I think i added it up when i was thinking about it and it came out to around $190 or $200. Remember, the PBJs on bears are one-wash so they're going to fit a lot tighter out of the box than the BiG ones where you can shrink them to fit you exactly.

i never found a pair of PBJ's raw in japan. The store was impossible to find, up a staircase outside harajuku, but the sales girl was very cute. have no idea where bear's is, but I don't know if they sell them anywhere else besides these 2 places, and i went to most jeans stores in tokyo.

Wait, are you saying the PBJ store doesn't sell raws? o_O

If that's the case I might as well just order them from BiG...

You can order them from bears on rakuten and they're one wash. Poly is probably talking about their distressed/lighter ones though as i know PBJ sells those too. BiG also has a one-wash service. It's the same thing. You'll still get all the fading, etc... The shrinking is just out of the way for you. A lot of people get scared when they see one-wash because they're trained to only want raw, but it's just as good and actually preffered for a lot of people.

... i agree with polyrock that as with everything in tokyo, places can be hard to find, even with a map from the hotel concierge, but it's not impossible to find

... i was just there a few weeks ago and i honestly don't recall if there were or weren't raw ones, i was a bit overwhelmed with denim in general by then and i ended up not buying pbj anyway, way too slubby, not the look i was after

Yeah, the PBJ store only carried one wash jeans when I purchased my xx-005.

I emailed PBJ before if they had their denims in raw, and they mentioned they can get a pair if you specifically mention you want raw. It will probably take some time as basically all of their models are one wash at all of the stores. BiG is about the only place I have seen PBJ available in raw.

and sometimes it takes a while for chainstitching at their location in tokyo. The guy who does it isn't always in, and sometimes it take take several days, as opposed to somewhere like hinoya where everyone knows how to use the machine..

Okay, I guess I was a little confused. When you said washed pairs I assumed you meant only washed/distressed pairs.

when I was there in november, the harajuku store carried both the raw and the 1-wash. they were low on smaller sizes, but they had both versions.

I was in Tokyo in March and I at first I remembered them being raw but now I'm really not sure. Also, they only had 1 in each size, if that, so be warned. I don't know how long your going to be there but I'd search around for other places besides PBJ (which were okay jeans but not great imo). For denim you have to go to Ueno and find Americaya and Hinoya which 3 stores on the same street. These two stores alone have 99% of the Japanese jeans talked about on here and SuFu. If you search here and SuFu enough you'll probably find directions to PBJ but I'm not sure about Ueno directions. Iif you PM me I might be able to help you find both PBJ and the stores in Ueno. Oh and print out a copy of every Tokyo SuFu map cause not only do they help you find stores, they also are a life saver from getting lost. Don't forget there are a lot more things to do in Tokyo than look for jeans (says the guy who spent 5 hours in Ueno trying on jeans).
