Already have a similar blackface (IWC ref. 3741) on a dark brown buffalo leather strap, so am keen to avoid the dark brown strap-black face combo again.

Did you not get the OEM buckle when you purchased your watch? You can put it on the new strap. If you didn't and want one, you can purchase a buckle separately

I'm just leaving the OEM one on the original black croc strap. I will eventually go back to it if I ever find myself wearing black shoes somehow, someday. The logo-less bracelets don't really bother me, rather I just get mindblown when shopping for the replacement parts for some of these bracelets/bands and see the prices in things like clasps - I'm just glad it isn't gold and something I would need.

NOS 1980s Explorer I

Not sure I like the Jubilee bracelet; would much prefer the Oyster bracelet but TBH I find it difficult to stomach getting that at Rolex AD prices given IMO it's a technically/tactile-y inferior bracelet when compared to, say, the Speedmaster's bracelet.
Any (non-NATO) ideas for a strap replacement?

That's an awesome watch and one I've had to restrain myself from buying several times. You can look into sailcloth straps, maybe. I'm in the camp that doesn't think anything except for a bracelet or NATO should be anywhere near a Rolex sport watch.

Nice - along with the Omega Speedy Pro, the IWC 3741 is one of the few chronographs I'd ever consider.

I've never tried anything other than the oysterbracelet or a NATO on my sub so I guess I'm a little in the same camp as the poster above, but if you're keen on a leather strap for your Explorer, I personally would go with black or dark brown (horsey, calf or buffalo) with no contrast stitching.

I have a couple of brown ones with contrast stitching for my Luminor, but when I recently got a cordovan strap for my IWC Mk XV I felt something like that would be too casual and went with a dark brown with no contrast stitching instead - I'll try to get a pic of the combo soon. The mid brown (whiskey?) I saw at Leffot was gorgeous but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't pair as well as a dark brown with the black dial and type of watch...

I'd go with a small perforation racing strap in black calf for casual looks, and a honey alligator (or faux croc) or cognac cordovan strap for business casual. I agree with the contrasting stitch. I don't think there's any way or need to fully dress up this watch - doesn't really jibe with the face/design IMO

Top one is a Seadweller, which I believe has been discontinued and the only make the Deepsea Seadweller now, and the bottom is a Submariner no-date, probably from the 80s or so judging by the dial and plastic crystal.
