Is that meant to be gold? it does look much more like sticking plaster colour. Think I'll just stick with black or white.

It's meant to be camouflage when you use the headband accessory. Yes, this is Samsung's answer to Google Glass.

Samsung makes great TV's, but all their other consumer electronics strike me as a prime example of bad taste.

Lol. I actually like that backing in other colors though. iPhone looks bulky and 5 years behind the Note 3 and S5, IMO.

Have you seen the Samsung faux leather backed tablets yet?? I cannot fathom the corporate decision making structure that let those abominations get into production.

Ok, it was unfair to take a broad jab at Samsung's industrial product designs as they certainly do make nice looking products. Yes saying this, I am not a fan of their recent phones. Too many are made out of cheap feeling plastics and don't really appeal to me from a design standpoint. That's not even taking into account the customizations they make to Android, which almost always end up making things worse functionally and aesthetically. .

Discarding screen sizes, the spec war tends to see a lot of leapfrogging. Samsung comes out with a new line and they one up Apple in areas. Then Apple comes out with a new line and they one up Samsung in certain areas. Back and forth. I tend to not get all that caught up with specs and focus more on the overall experience being provided me.

Case in point, Apple tends to have some of the highest rated cameras for their phones on the market. Yet, they hardly ever are market leaders in "specs" in this area. They have spent a lot of time focusing on fine tuning their camera software and the results have shown that you don't always need the biggest numbers to provide the best results.

I don't understand this. The iPhone 5 is smaller in all areas then the S5. Lighter too. Are you saying the industrial design Apple is using creates the impression of it being more bulky?

Has anyone done the most recent update for their phone? I did last night and now my phone gets warm when charging, loses it's charge very fast, and seems to take a long time to charge.

Could that be from the latest update or didn't I notice this before?

I have. None of those issues whatsoever for me.

I have, however, heard that many people have been experiencing increased battery discharge.

Latest update has gone smoothly for me. No issues with the battery or additional heat. Seems to have fixed some bugs I was experiencing too.

Not sure I like some of the changes to the UI. Circles in the call interface look nice, but seem a little harder to tap on the go due to size. Will have to get used to them.

I just talked with someone for about an hour with my phone plugged into my computer and my battery went down to 98% from 100%. I've never seen it lose a charge while it was plugged into a charger (my computer)! lol

I have noticed that the arrow symbol at the top indicating something is using my location is now always on. I'll have to try and find out what that is as I think that's a pretty big drain. Maybe something with the new update or me updating my apps caused a change in my settings.

Just curious to see what the crowd thinks - 13" rMBP or MBA? I haven't done much research and think I'm leaning in a certain direction, but I figure the opinionated good folks who frequent this discussion may convince me that one or the other is a slam dunk. Have even thought about doing 15 rMBP for the larger screen and quad core although I'm not sure the extra power is worth the roughly $450 extra it will cost me as configured (8 GB / 256 GB). I am no longer what I would consider to be a power user, but I would like this laptop to have some longevity and I hate slowness. If there were a 15" MBA, I would probably have gone in that direction or if there were a 15" rMBP that matched the 13" in specs.

I figure the MBA has this going for it: slightly lighter, slightly faster in a number of measures particularly if you go for the i7 upgrade although that would price it above the rMBP, still a nice screen which fits more elements on screen at optimal resolution, extra 2+ hours of battery life. rMBP has this going for it: screen+iris graphics, slightly smaller footprint, extra thunderbolt + HDMI ports.

Do either of them still suffer from stuttering / lagging graphics in normal usage?

^ A year ago I was debating between the 13" Air and the 13" MBP with retina display. I'm glad I chose the MBP.

For me, the extra lightness wasn't as valuable as the better specs and the display. I figured I have my iPad for when ultra-portability is required. Longevity was also a top consideration for me (I managed to extend the life of my previous Apple laptop to 6 years), and I suspected not having a retina display would be an annoyance a couple years from now.

Both are great choices, though. The Air's extra battery life would be nice to have, though the MBP battery life is decent too and I find I rarely need to charge mid-day when I'm away from home.

Definitely leaning MBP. Other than larger screen/SSD, there's not much that would cause me to want to upgrade one of these things in the near future. The one game-changer I could think of would be a touch screen. Sooner or later the MBP will have one and I'm going to wish I had waited haha.

I think you're right. Specs are pretty good across the board. Retina display and a big SSD are probably going to add the most satisfaction to your purchase.

Can't imagine Apple would add touch-input to a laptop screen. Who knows though :)
