So speaking of length, I noticed on the NMWA site that the trousers on the SF suits has the same measurement listed for the "L" sizes as for the "R" at 36.6". This seems way too short for a decent cuff for those of us on the tall side. Is this right? How do the trousers fit? Did you cuff yours?

I have a 1.75" cuff with the slightest break.

You'd have to have really long legs AND a desire for extra big cuffs, for those Formosa trousers to be too short. Anything longer than 93 cm is just a waste of cloth for the 95% of the population who buy the trousers. For the other 5%, it's pretty easy for any tailor to make a faux-cuff if you really want something big and there's not enough cloth.

I am 6'2" with a 30" inseam could make 3" cuff with the fabric on those Formosa pants (of course, I don't, I stick with 1 3/4")

What's your inseam? Wouldn't you need at least 4-5 additional inches to get a 1.75" cuff, or is it a faux cuff?
No tailor needs 5 inches of cloth to make a 1 3/4" cuff.

Greg's right as usual. You only need about .5" extra material, so 4" in my case. My inseam is 32.75" and there was just barely enough for a standard cuff.

Yeah, 5" is extreme, but you'd need at least 4" to do a standard 1.75" cuff as Murl said, which means any inseam thats 33" or longer and you're out of luck, especially if you wanted a bigger cuff. 1.75" tends to look pretty wimpy on me. I've even posted pics with 2" cuffs and all the feedback I've always gotten is that they still look too small on my frame, which is why I started going with 2.25" most of the time. I could probably do a faux cuff, but that would be it

That makes more sense now Greg. I must have longer legs as well. I'm just a shade under 6'2" and I have 33" inseam on my trousers. So I need ~37.5" for a 2" in cuff. Even with a 1.75" cuff I need ~37". Bollocks. :brick:

Yeah, I guess so - but not a fan.

That now explains why I frequently have so much trouble finding trousers that are long enough.

So for reference, for a 2" faux cuff I need ~3" extra (2" for the "cuff", 1/2" for the "faux" and another 1/2" for the underside)? Or no?

Yes that sounds about right. I have several suits with faux cuffs, and I find them just fine especially if the tailor adds the kick tape to give them a little more weight and protect the inside

The bolded part seems to be what I'm missing when I get faux cuffs done, maybe that's why I never liked them in the past. I'll look into this next time I get pants that aren't long enough for a real cuff, thanks!

Or I could just have a couple of inches removed from my legs like Ethan Hawke did in Gattica.

Ehm, the opposite. He got his legs lengthened, actually existing and excrutiating procedure, think invented by a Russian or so. Basically the bones of your lower leg get sawn into several segments, the whole stabilised with bolts, nuts and bars set into the bones. Then the stretching process begins where bone mass fills in the gaps over time, the same way broken bones grow back together. Sounds fun, right?

PSA : we just added a pretty big restock of Vass shoes. In particular, the ultra-popular scotch-grain Norweger is back in all sizes.

If you see something you like, in your size, get it now - don't wait until it's sold out and then ask us when we'll be restocking it !

Another big shipment to come in a few weeks that will include also new styles.
