I personally find these mantallassi's very attractive. They do exhibit a tinge of dare i say it, kenneth cole squareness, but very well executed and that makes the difference.Originally Posted by bob

I rather like them, and I think they could look really good with some antiquing.
I think of these as typical "country" or at least countrified shoes, along the same lines as heavy brogues. As such, you could wear them with corduroys, tweed, grey flannel etc. A too pointy toe can be too urban for some styles.
This "absolutely no square toes" thing is more a sartorial shibboleth of the various clothing message-boards, than really grounded on any aesthetic consideration, I think. Fashions and tastes change.

I've always thought square toes of kenneth cole's ilk monstrosities even before the forum, and still do. However there is something about these pair of sutor's that do it for me. Perhaps its the stitching. I'm not sure. In any case, i hope this means less bidding opponents on ebay for me.

I'll be the first to admit never! I wouldn't take a free pair. They would have to pay me quite a bit. A few pairs of Vass could do the trick.

I recently donated a pair of black Bally's in a similar style (purchased circa 2001, and in need of a resoling). The toe shape is definitely 5-6 years old, though it isn't as offensive as some of the bike toe, club foot monstrosities from KC and the like. Personally, I have too many shoes to give these much considerations, but I believe these would look much better if the soles/welting were brown instead of black. I feel the black soles really detract from the beauty of the uppers.
