I carry calling cards with my name and an email only. A variation I guess but I work in the tech field. I frequently write another number or contact on the back depending upon how much contact I want to have from the person. (Direct line, admin or an associate...) Back during the bubble as a VC was getting business plans from everybody - a waiter would hand me a business plan. It was a little much. The email address on the card is a general email box that an admin. handles for me.

My comfort level with the calling card varies. On one hand I have feel it is a little arrogant but I do want/need privacy.

In the industry a few years ago it was more common to beam each other contact info via palms rather than a calling card which was "old school".

Rather than the Daniel Ocean I preferred how Robert Redford's charactor handled the card in "Indecent Proposal," he "owed" the building. I would add that many people like to have the card of someone famous or the person that owns the building as some sort of a validation or trophy.

I rarely give a card to a female that I am interested in. My rule is that if she doesn't give me or number or email she isn't interested. I call her - I haven't found the reverse to work. I must not be the handsome devil some of the other members are...

I am quite comfortable without any sort of card. With eligible females, I will call them. With males in a social situation, we exchange numbers. With professional colleagues, "Fifteen Inns" is usually enough for them to go on...

I've done a personal card ever since the email age. It is plain and has my wife's and my name, address, and email. I find it most convenient, and it averts transcription and reading errors. I also carry business cards for the right audience.

Hey Todd,

I have the Starwalker Resin fountain pen, which is a cartridge. Of course, the cartridges cost more but they are pretty convenient and I will think about getting a converter in the future. All in all, it's a wonderful pen and everyone I know that has one loves theirs.

If you want a fountain pen, and not pay out of the ass at the MontBlanc store, I would suggest www.joonpens.com You can sort by brand and price there and their selection is pretty extensive. If you are ever in NY and want someone to guide you through things, they have stores everywhere. I would suggest getting a starter pen and seeing what you like/dislike before moving onto the real deals like Limited Editions.

Those seem to be good pens at very decent prices. Also, join another forum:

It's bizarre to me that, in a social context, a calling card could be considered acceptable if it contains your business contact info, but pretentious if it contains only your personal contact info. This from the unbuttoned-suit-jacket button crowd.

I'm thinking of ordering one of the following- possibly both. My thinking is that I would give the cream one out and notes such as my e-mail could be written on the back. The chocolate one would be for more casual purposes and my number is printed since ink won't show on the brown paper. Reviews/Opinions? Attachment 2976 Attachment 2977 That's obviously not my real name/number... I don't want you guys setting me up with your sisters/daughters (unless she is Alessandra Ambrosio).

The blind embossed outer frame is elegant.

Re the chocolate -- I thought of doing mine in black, but would then have to carry a white pen all the time...so yeah, I agree.

They probably make some with black/dark fronts and white backs. That would be a good compromise.

I have a friend who had some of these made up with her name and email address only. I seriously considered doing the same - it is something to give out when you want someone to remember you in the context in which you talked rather than in the context of your business. I have business cards for my business but I find the concept of considering everyone, everyone a potential client to be crass. For people I'd just like to remember me, I'd rather have something quality to hand them rather than write on a handy scrap of crappy paper.

An alternative might be to carry a small supply of blank card stock pieces and write whatever is needed on it - also allows you to hand it to someone to write her number on it.
