I had the dark grey hb morning with black velvet collar and also found it tricky to wear with my wardrobe
I think I sold it to afl a while back and I also think it works better with his style

the collar on yours looks more like an iridescent copper-peach tone, right?
I thought only the brown wp had that collar

I'd maybe try it with brown or gray wool pants but yeah could easily end up looking like a barker

Thanks. Oh, man...Actually, mine looks exactly like the first pic, except the collar is a dark brown, not copper, not peach. (What I was trying to say was that the velvet part doesn't continue down the length of the coat, as it does in the second pic).

The thrifts have finally delivered some great wool pants, so I'll definitely try it with those. I love this jacket (mine's very thin, so perfect for this town), it's just so hard to put together.

the velvet on both those jackets I posted only goes about 2/3's down the front to around bottom pocket flap height
if you look closely at the second pic you can see where it ends

Thanks - far from it though. I am blessed with a) hair and b) that seem to fall in the right direction. It is amusing though that it gets any attention as I don't pay too much attention to it myself (Save for less than 60 seconds with some pomade) . Actually thinking of going full-on eLuther ….

Unrelated: how do I rock the EG morning jacket? (It's like the one on the site, gray herringbone, but with maybe half a brown velvet collar, instead of full). I'm trying to get it to cooperate with something other than jeans + white shirt, but feel very costume-y, like an extra from Copper or Hell on Wheels...

That is a very cool jacket. I always find gray HB so tough to pair though. Maybe pairing it with black jeans and a darker shirt (For reference, MoK's challenge fit)? But I also thought it could work in a bit more crazier fit. For example with one colorful/ patterned piece (e.g. crazy EG print/ pattern pants in paisley, or geo, or crazier pattern shirt like the one Alex snagged at Gary's, etc.). Or maybe it would work completely out of the EG context, pairing it with some of the stuff Synthese wears or Conceptualist wore in his last WAYWT fit (With a HB Bedford)? But better not to listen to my style advice at the moment … 3 glasses in after a day on the beach ...

yeah, I used to wear mine strictly with black bottoms up in canada but found it too warm for socal
really nice jacket though, pretty sure afl is doing it justice

have a brand new with tags EG pineapple chambray in size large. pm if interested...

It's funny for me to think about how in my world--and I get to travel a good deal, both in the US and abroad--I almost never see anybody wearing EG--but in here it's everybody and their brother.

So the "rules" somewhat escape me when I look in the mirror.

Would be funny to see somebody in person and say to them, "I love that jacket but do you *really* think the blue jeans go with it?"

Edit: that said I greatly appreciate all the suggestions and comments.

For the most part, in New England, people dress like a Costco circular.

Thanks - I know what you mean (although I confess to a period of regularly wearing fairly formal blazers with T's in the late 80's (hey we all made big mistakes in the late 80's, and I was young... )) - I think it works because the Baker is such a casual blazer (and rather rumpled) - it avoids that smart/casual discordance. Mike posted a similar fit with a T under a Batik, and I freely confess to using that as inspiration

Part of it, too, I think it the boat neck opening of the Saint James t – the proportions play right with one another. And, like you said, appropriately aligns (non-)formal pieces.
