What shoes to wear with charcoal wool flannel CARGO dress pants?

Perhaps it was a mistake buying these pants--dark charcoal grey in wool flannel with cargo pockets on the sides--but I gotta keep them because they're already hemmed.

I'm at a loss as to what sort of shoes to wear with them. The cargo pockets are really throwing me off when it comes to choosing the shoes.

Come to think of it, I'm not even sure what sort of shirts and ties I should wear with them.

Any thoughts, anyone? Thanks.

I have a similar pair of pants and I tend to balance them with a pair of longwings or boots since they are not truly dressy and benefit from the chunkiness of the broguing. I'd say to go with whatever color you typically match to the given shade of charcoal (I try to steeze out with dark brown if I am wearing them during daylight hours and stick to black at night).

From what I steal from tumblr and such, Cucinelli tends to pair khaki cargos with heavier shoes and layering on the top, such as quilted pieces or heavier fabrics. The ideal I associate this with is a hunting outfit of some sort, so that tends to mean patch pockets, elbow patches, corduroy, scarves and down vests.

Overall I would try to not consider these dress pants. Wool flannel is great for colder weather and you will be able to dress these up for a casual night out without seeming too stuffy and slick.

Yeah I bought a pair of EGs (in sig) similar, although they have the higher pockets. Don't really know how to wear them neither. They feel so nice and are super comfy so I want to keep them but can't really see myself wearing them much. Kinda feeling a chambray up top with Indy boots but not sure.

I'd go with a more casual chukka boot in a dark suede. As for tops, I don't think I'd do a dress shirt, and definitely not a tie, with these. More than likely a half-zip mock neck in dark brown, camel or even black would look great. These don't seem like true dress trousers, but more like upscale casual cold weather weekend pants for someone whose really not a "jeans guy".

casual boots and an old tweed sportscoat

as for general colors on the top half, navy and red seem to be popular (pretend these are cargos) and for footwear a lot of chukkas and boots, or loafers and boat shoes (I don't get the boat shoes though):

paging NYranger

yeah NYR had some great shots a few weeks ago with the cargos featured in Master-Classter's first pic. Lots of great options, but most are more in the casual side....kinda hard to dress them up as a true dress trouser.

Maybe the cargo pockets can be removed... Cargo pockets should only be used for hiking or camping imo. But maybe I'm crazy.

Chunky Sweaters, Sport Coats over ligher weight turtlenecks or OCBD. Never a tie - not with cargo pockets.

Burgundy or oxblood cordovan derbies or boots.
