New Carmina Styles

Hey guys, here are the two new Carmina's that we just received:

1000

Salinger Double Monk Burgundy Shell Cordovan: $825

These might be the best looking shoes that we've ever received. They are stunning in person. The burgundy shell is lighter and more vibrant than Color 8, and it's absolutely gorgeous on the thicker stacked medium brown sole. Inca last.

1000

Hawthorne Handsewn Moc Snuff Suede: $325

We developed this style in partnership with Carmina. As you guys know, we used to offer our own handsewn collection. When the opportunity came up to make new styles in Spain, I added a few tweaks to increase the quality:
1. The stacked sole has a leather covering on the bottom to protect the stitching. Moccasin shoes are very soft and comfortable, but they lack the durability of goodyear welts because once the bottom stitching touches the pavement, the whole shoe blows out. We designed ours with a thicker sole and a protective leather covering to offer significantly more wear before a resole is necessary.

2. Most moc's also have exposed stitching at the front which you can feel with your toes if you wear them barefoot. We used glove leather lining to the edge to keep it comfy throughout inside.

3. Suede moc's have a somewhat unattractive "butt seam" on the toe box where the two pieces of suede meet. If you look closely, you can see the rough interior of the leather. With smooth leathers this is fine, but it looks a little cheap with suede (IMO). So we used a "rolled English moc", which is a small strip of leather that rolls down and covers the seam. And thereby keeps it so fresh and so clean.

Long story short, these are the best freaking penny loafers that I've ever seen from anyone for anywhere near this price. Fit is fantastic on them, and you can get your normal Carmina size. I'm really thrilled with how they came out.

^+1 :fu:

I have a brown dub-monk, a black dub-monk, & light brown monk. I think burgundy would be the ultimate shell monk. might be time..,

Any updates on the navy shell and/or jodhpur Carmina MTO project?

I'd love to get some boots rolling so I can have them in time for the "wonderful" winter in Chicago.

At the moment, Navy Shell is going to be a problem for the rest of 2012. Waiting on confirmation from Horween, but we burned through the last of it for the two MTO's that we already submitted (Double Monk, Austerity Brogue), and I can't say for sure if we'll get more in time for delivery by the end of the year.

That said, we can certainly do it in Midnight Calf without a problem. Or we can set up a preorder for a Navy Shell Jodphur with the understanding that delivery could happen in the early Spring of 2013.

I'm very interested in the midnight calf for a jodhpur boot.....anyone else?

It will fill out the trifecta nicely with the other preorders.
