Heard the NPR segment on it the other day. What I heard was fantastic. That said I'd buy it if I wasn't poor. Really fantastic sounding stuff.

I have had it on almost continuously since friday. I've had the bootlegs for years but this is even better. Jesus, this is grand. writing a piece about it now.

Is it just lots of snippets or are there any worked out songs? I'm a big Beach Boys fan, but lots of starting and stopping and studio noodling might be too much even for me to take.

Good Vibrations is probably one of the best pop songs ever recorded. I have the SMiLe he did a few years ago, and it's good, but not quite the same as having the original lineup of voices. That music is so of a time and place.

It's not "finished" but there are complete songs. I would say it is a carefully produced version of the best original '66-'67 takes of the 19 tracks that Brian Wilson eventually figured out constituted the album. Had he worked on it more in 1967 it would be better but as it is, it is ******* awesome.

"Our Prayer" with the real Boys, not the touring band, is like a Gregorian chant sung on a surfboard. I don't know how to describe it. "Heroes and Villians", "Wind Chimes," "Wonderful," "Surf's Up," "Cabin Essence" are the best but it's all great.

"Good Vibrations" is in a class by itself, fully finished, the most finely tuned pop song ever recorded. A finish that blew away "Day in the Life," which is what Wilson wanted and he achieved it.

There is nothing like this, anywhere.

I'm getting it, just been waffling on whether to download it or buy the vinyl. But actually, I need a version for my car, so I'm gonna download and decide on the vinyl later. I've been listening to bits of it though here and there and it sounds fantastic.

I can't stop listening to this. Just remarkable. The lyrics are a revelation. Unlike Manton, I never really listened to the bootlegs of this stuff. It's as much a "great american record" as anything from Dylan. I suppose it has me thinking about Dylan because it seems to re-imagine old american folk styles in the way that Dylan does, but it mines other parts of the tradition and melds them with that singular Brian Wilson writing style. Even Good Vibrations feels fresh. I've always heard it on it's own, as a single and a song that felt like a stylistic pinnacle for Wilson, but here, heard as the coda to this brilliant song cycle, it takes on greater depth and poignancy. I so wish it had been released in '67, so it could have spawned who-knows-what from the bands it might have inspired.

Wait, just now? I gave this to my dad for Christmas a few years back and it was a long time before he stopped raving about it, it was like he got part of his youth back. He even started wearing his old Hawaiian shirts again, which used to dismay me but now I find it charming.
