Hi All

I am going to have a linen suit made in the next couple of months. I cannot decide on the details, so any thoughts appreciated.

Firstly, navy or cream?

Navy looks good, is flattering and will not need to be cleaned so often.
Cream will be good for the sun and avoiding mosquitoes in Italy. Also classic.

I have started to wear trousers with higher waistbands, but as this is going to be a summer suit should I go lower for comfort?

I am thinking soft tailored, single breast, notch lapel. But could be persuaded to consider something else.

Lastly, I plan to have the trousers fairly wide (for me) with a 8.5inch finish. But should I have a turn up or not?

If anyone has a photo of their favourite linen suit I would love to see it for inspiration please.

I don't know much but here's what I do:

If you want a wider leg (which is wise in the summer), it can help to balance the weight of it with a mid- to high-rise. Higher rises can also feel cooler because they give you more room in the top block.

But should I have a turn up or not?
A cuff can be useful if the weight of the linen is not quite substantial enough for the fabric to drape on its own. Apart from that, it's personal taste and dependent on lots of factors such as how long your legs are, or need to appear, how formal you want to be, how much weight you're looking to push to the bottom of your trouser. I feel like suit cuffs are more of a British country look, I'm not sure if I've seen it much in unstructured Italian summer suiting, but others would know more than I.

Thanks All, some useful stuff.

I cannot go too brown because I already have a lightweight wool 3-piece in a similar colour.

I am tempted by the buttermilk, but it can be a bit yellow.

I think I am persuaded towards turn-ups.

Rise remains a question mark. I like the idea of higher and looser, I do like the way that higher rise trousers look.

For those of you interested, this is the cloth I have opted for.

The style will be a soft tailored button two SB, high rise flat-fronted trousers.
