Has anybody seen what they have there? I was at the Wrentham location last night, and the guy told me that all their blazers have been marked down severely, including 100% cashmere ones, which they are selling for $400. The store is full of them: I mean racks and racks. You're in particularly good luck if you're between 40-44.

Additionally, most the suits have apparently been marked down severely. The seller said that these are 1-2 seasons out, and that's why they are marked down. It's funny because the best things you can get at the Providence Place mall are BB, HSM, and Abboud. (Not terrible, but not worth 7 bills either).

The thing is, $400 (not including tailoring) is a lot of money for me. On the other hand, I can get a sport coat that allegedly retails for $1900 for that much, and it will last a good, long time. Do you guys think these are worth the money?

If it fits you well, I think $400 for a Hickey Freeman cashmere sportcoat is a great deal, especially if it's a jacket you will wear a lot. I really like Hickey Freeman's sportcoats. They fit me well right off the rack and are easy to get on discount.

And by the way, their $1900 MSRP is the real deal. Those are expensive coats. Even better if you can find a "Hand Tailored" one. Avoid "Hickey Freeman Collection."

OK, then. I think I'll go pick it up. I was saving for some AEs but I guess those will have to wait.

The guy told me to avoid the "Ltd." below the HF label. Where would I look to find the "collection" designation, so I can steer clear of it?

Yes, avoid the Ltd. The "collection" have it on the sleeve tag, if I remember correctly. I haven't looked long, though, so I could be mistaken. It's possible I'm thinking of the Ltd, or they use them interchangeably. Be sure to check to see if they have any cashmere blends, either cashmere/wool or cashmere/silk. Hickey tends to price them the same as the all wool when discounted ($200-$250 at sample sales), but they are very luxurious. I'm wearing one in the photo to the left. Here's another which is in my closet patiently waiting for spring:

I'm pretty sure the "Collection" label is also applied to the standard line fully-canvassed stuff on occasion. The LTD stuff at Syms I've seen is the lower fused line. It's not terrible, but the good stuff is discounted heavily enough so i've never considered an LTD.

Collection = regular HF line, full floating canvas, handsewn shoulders
LTD = 1/2 Canvas

What's this about sample sales?

Well, I thank you for your opinion. chorse123, you are a friend to me.

I went ahead and bought the sportcoat. It is 100% cashmere, Madison line (like yours) 2 button, in glen plaid over a darker camel (don't know what it's called) with stripes of orange, red, dark green, and black. The net effect from far away is that it's a lightish brown.

I got it for $400 where it normally retails for $1695. I don't know how they can cut so hard, but they did. I'm taking it to a tailor tomorrow to get it taken in.

This is my first major post-SF clothing purchase. I did buy a Joseph Abboud navy-stripe (fused, not a huge deal, as I hardly ever need to dry clean my stuff) for $345 +$100 for alterations at Nordy because of my strange body, and I have managed to avoid any ridiculous or stupid expenditures (MW, Boss, Armani), so I hope I can get a lot of wear out of this thing.

Still, I can't believe I got a fully-canvassed, brand new cashmere coat for under $1000. Somebody pinch me (above the chest pocket)!

Kiton may be a Ferrari, but HF is a Cadillac, and I'm fine with a Cadillac.
