Here are my translations of some of my favorite shoe-care articles from the Japanese MEN'S EX magazines. I haven't been able to find time to translate as much as I hoped for, but did manage to get these done. My grammar and spelling probably need some editing, but for the most part, I did my best trying to translate phrase by phrase from the original article. I'll try to add more articles on this thread, so stay tuned. Enjoy

Please click on the link below the image for a crisper view.

updated 3/1/12, 2/29/12

From MEN'S EX ISSUE FEB 2012

'ELEMENTS OF FINE SHOES'
Lots of good materials, but again, I want to focus on Japanese shoes. Yes another dissection, and Miyagi Kogyo is my favorite Japanese brand. They really fit me like butter!
Emori Custom Shoes: 150K JPY =around 1875 USD, still a good value I think :)
Saion: 40K = 500 USD

updated: 12/12/11

from MEN'S EX special edition "High End Shoes Manual Vol.5 2011/11/15 (pub)

"NIPPON Shoes Strike Back!!"

Special report on Japanese bespoke and rtw brands. Quite extensive but I hope to translate most of them

"Profiles of Yohei Fukuda and Spigola" added: 12-12-11
I actually cut and pasted these two pages out of 4, I'll try to update the pages for the other 3 makers, materials mostly recycled from last year's edition, except the part on on SPIGOLA.

"We visited the Factory of Gaziano and Girling"

OK this is kinda weird. Their interview was translated to Japanese from English, and then I translated back to English, so I believe there is a lot of details lost. I also am not very knowledgable with shoe making terms, so pardon my mistakes (and also for some grammars). Nice images too! Enjoy!!! 12-08-11

from MEN'S EX special edition "High End Shoes Manual Vol.4" 2010/2/10 (pub)

"Bespoke in Japan Now"

6 pages article introducing the current scene of high end bespoke shoes makers of Japan. 9/10/11, 11/20/11, 11/28/11 updated

from MEN'S EX special edition "The Ultimate Maintenance Manual" 2009/12/10 (pub)

Here is a shoe-care how-to article by the "Shoe-shine-ist" Yuya Hasegawa from the salon Brift H. You've probably seen him from this infamous youtube clip
Other articles from this publication includes:
"Fine Shoe Cream and Wax: Pictorial Reference"
"Inside the Shoeshiners' Boxes" updated 12-02-11
"First Class Maintenance Goods" + "What makes Shoetree First Class" 12-05-11

from MEN'S EX June Edition "Dissecting Great Shoes" 2011/5/11 (pub)

Here is an article that dissected and analyzed some of our most beloved high end shoes, including Alden Shell V-Tip, G&G St. James, EG Dover, and JM Weston Golf. I posted this before on some thread before, but here it is for convenience. Btw the JM Weston shoes came on top.

nutcracker: just to let you know, I'm forwarding some of these images along with due credits (to both you and SF) on my blog. Much obliged!

You're most welcomed to! Sorry I don't have Adobe Illustrator, would have been great if I had AI files for you. I just use plain old paint.net  Maybe in future.....
