It's like some insecure men say "Oh I like the shy nerdy type" when really we know they're attracted to the hot slut who intimidates them because she's not shy.

Those pics are from ads, magazines, etc. Most of the time if you wear that sort of stuff IRL you are going to look bland/geeky or really flamboyantly preppy.

Some of this stuff is horrible (e.g. this) and would qualify for "stuff that would make me reconsider my girlfriends taste in everything".

BTW Hendrix, I really do prefer the nerdy type (how fun is a girl you can't watch LOTR with?). Shyness is kinda boring though.

True. But still, I think getting this perspective provides a good check against some of the i-gent groupthink that develops in these places. I've been mostly lurking here for around 2 years, soaking up information and getting tips and refining how I dress. But every once in a while I have one of those moments of panic where I think maybe, just maybe, I've been listening to a bunch of guys who just talk to themselves over and over and develop a sense of "rules" and what looks good that has little overlap with what looks good in reality. I had one of those moments recently when I was sitting in church behind a 30ish guy done up to the nines. Expensive jacket, pocket square, four in hand knot, perfect break in the pants, kicking walnut shoes. He looked like he was dressed by a SF committee. And yet, it just looked totally off. It didn't work.

TL; DR: I dig the chicks opinions.

Some things that MC likes I can imagine would be a complete turn off.

In the end though, everyone has different perspectives on what looks good, what is sexy, what isn't.

If I was totally concerned with what turns girls on I wouldn't wear:
anything with broguing
anything brown
anything tweed
any pocketsquares
etc etc.

I'd just go around every day in leather jacket, slim jeans, and zip boots.

In the end, personal style is more important and attractive in it's own right.

While I obviously DO NOT understand certain current fashion trends (drop crotch and overly baggy being just two of the many eye sores currently floating around on the forum), I do not go in and **** on every post. In fact, I go in to try and observe, learn, and understand. Sometimes, like with the guy who wore a short sleeve shirt, shorts, loafers, AND A ******* BOW TIE, its just not possible. Those I'll point out. I don't comment on a good 90% of the posts in here either, unless I see something that's just slightly off or doesn't work. Color matching, sizing, etc.. Often, people end up agreeing with me. Miraculous, I know. Now if you want me to be all touchy ******* feely about it, well I've got some land in the everglades that you might be interested in investing in. Some people will like me, some won't. Period.

Not a fan of ties with jeans. That jacket does however go really well with the jeans
I'm wearing an old jacket (10+ y)I still have from secondary school. We had a liberal dress code (SC+tie) rather than a uniform.

This is true. For some fairly embarrassing and shameful reasons I have occasion to wear an outfit like this:

Silver skinny fit jacket
White shirt
Skinny black tie
Skinny black trousers (polly blend!)
Black boots.

Outside of the fact the outfit is part of a uniform that earns me more money than I can do without, I get hit on ALL THE TIME. Over the years I've been proud of the fact I dress like a traditionalist/prep, chinos, nice cashmere jackets, decent shoes and maybe get hit on once every 6 weeks. The one day a week I wear the uniform and I get hit on at least 3 times in the day.

I admit here, in public, that it takes more than a little willpower to stick with my more conservative way of dress knowing that there are certain advantages in dressing like a douche.

sometimes MC does remind me of that guy in "She's gotta have it" who's getting with this crazy great girl, but stops to fold his clothes just right as he takes off each item .
