Rolex advice please

I may have an opportunity to purchase a Rolex basically at cost (met the President last night). I don't really know much about the model lineup. If you were getting a Rolex, what would you get and why? (No diamonds please)

I have a Submariner, one of the best watches(for me) since I can abuse it with no worries, a Daytona is really nice also, depends on what you would use it for and how much would you wear it

Is yours stainless? I remember when I was young, I saw a gentleman with a solid 18K submariner with black face, and I loved it so much.

I prefer the Day-Date with a black face with golden roman dials,
the rest of the watch would be 50/50 gold and platinum/stainlessteel.

yeah I have a stainless steel one, my father-in-law is a Rolex aficionado, he has the solid gold one, but my choice is the gold and steel with the blue face, I find that watch stunning, but thats me, because it seems my taste on here seem to get bashed all the time

Btw try to see if you can get a new "old stock" watch, I'm sure he(the president of Rolex) has to have access, get the ones with the acrylic crystal

wouldn't that be a 33-1/3 - 33-1/3 - 33-1/3 watch

just get a presidential, the band is nice on those

If you can get it at cost I would personally get (and since you can afford it) a day-date in white gold or platinum (although the platinum version is really heavy), with either pure white or pure black dial with Romans or Indices. Your best bet is to check out a local Rolex store and look at the store catalogue for the different types of combinations and see which one appeals most to you. BTW, this advice comes from someone who sold Rolex at a high-end jewelry store for over 5 years. Jon.

^^^^ he's right, my father in law has a 2 presidentials, one in yellow gold and a new one in platinum with the mother of pearl dial (the watch is amazing) you can't go wrong with any of those watches, but white goes with everything

I think the basic Oyster model in stainless steel and the plain bezel looks best, the most classic. Mother of pearl dials, diamond encrustations, and two-tone metals are just beyond the realm of a Russian small business owner.

The Daytona in any metal is the obvious choice for the resale value alone. If I was going to incorporate the watch into my regular watch rotation, I would get the SS/Platinum Yachtmaster. As versatile as the Submariner, with the added benefit that you will not see it on every other guy's wrist.

I wouldn’t count on anything that old being stored for sale, plus why would you want it? It’s almost 30 years old and since then they have made a massive jump in construction. Jon.
