It is only 39mm. It looks much bigger than it is. It fit very comfortable.

Why don't they bring it back? It seems to be so loved!

so I found a vintage band I like, listed as 11/16 can anyone recommend watches I should be looking for that would be a good fit for a leather band? besides Seiko? I am looking for a chronograph similar to the Seiko from just above...probably needs to be slightly vintage to fit 11/16 (17mm). would like to spend < $100

Nice dial. I like a lot of the Raketa & Luch dials. The watches seem pretty good timekeepers for manual wind too.

PSA for folks in Toronto: Honest Ed's (Bloor & Bathurst) has about a dozen different Seiko 5 Automatics for $54.99 CAD. Online, they can be found for $55-$95 but only from US, and I don't know of any place that sells them as cheap here in Canada.

Cheapest watch I've ever owned as an adult was the Casio F91W that I picked up new from a street vendor in Bogota for ~$2 USD. (wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casio_F91W ) The curious thing with it is that it actually runs slow by about 1 min a day. I've opened up the case, and there don't seem to be any serviceable/tunable parts at all, the entire circuit board is potted in epoxy

This is my inexpensive Timex Expedition, it's doing the job until I can get an automatic. I like the Seiko SNK805K2 except for the fact that it's only water resistant to 30 meters; which, if I understand correctly, means showering with your watch is questionable.

Also... To anyone thinking they can save some money by getting 5 nylond bands for $30 from Central Watch Co, I advise against it. I just got my order, and the hole placement on three of the bands is for a much larger wrist than mine. And there is now way of knowing which bands will come with a gold tone buckle. And they do not respond to emails. EDIT: You want 'em?

^ I have that same exact Seiko but mine is on a stainless band. It's a wonderful watch, has yet to be off by more than 50 seconds. Undoubtedly the best "poor man's (modern) watches" are Seiko 5 autos.

The classic Seiko's are the best poor man's watch. They are affordable. The movement is reliable. The designs are understated and work well with casual and dress clothes.
