But, he's lost his stuff.)

PitchF/x agrees. His velocity has remained consistent enough on all of his pitches, as has his horizontal movement, but his vertical movement is way down. I would guess that these are the balls that are getting hit, changes with no sink, fastballs without enough rise, sliders with no sink etc.

Braun?

Best thing they could do. He's through in MKE.

The Tigers' (or should it be "Tigers's" according to Fowler?) magic number is 3.
Max, finally, got his 20th win.

"Cy Young for SURE-zer"

I hope not. Better cases can be made for Chris Sale, Iwakuma, Sanchez, Darvish and Colon. Win record is arbitrary, ask Felix Hernandez.

Brendan Ryan is putting on an absolute show today. 8 assists with 2 on the other side of 2nd. If Kevin Long can turn him into a .260 hitter he could be a legitimate everyday SS next year.

4th in WAR, 5th in ERA, 2nd K/9, 6th in IP, 5th in ERA+, and the only thing he leads in (bullshit stats like wins excepted) is WHIP and that is only marginally. And just for fun he is 4th in adjusted pitching wins. It is hard to make an actual statistical case for him winning the CYA. It is also worth noting that Scherzer has not had a complete game whereas Chris Sale has had 4.

Outstanding season? Yes.

Best pitcher in the AL? Nope.

On Saturday night, the Tigers were down in the 9th, 6-0. They came back, tied it, and won it in extra innings. Biggest 9th inning (6 run) come back for the Tigers since 1947. Porcello did well, again. I'm glad that we won't see (White Sox) Chris Sale for another year. The Magic Number is 2. #neverleavethegameearly

God is a Yankees fan.

This guy must be really wealthy because I see him at a lot of games.

Late to the party but I agree with you here. I think sanchez will eat into his votes anyhow. I DO think it could be one of these "welp, no other guy's team made the playoffs and every candidate is so close, so lets give it to the guy who made the playoffs" type of deal.

Interesting article on Mo being overrated http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/9718373/mariano-rivera-overrated-well-beloved-respected

Things that stood out: he only has a career WAR of 56.5 (Schilling 80.7, Pettitte 60 for reference) and an 89.1% career save rate which is not terribly high when compared to win rates at 1, 2 and 3+ run leads in the 9th.

i bet the last 5 years (with unbalanced AL East division heavy schedules) really inflated it. Familiarity. Hell Pedro Martinez started to get hit hard by the yankees/toronto/baltimore) towards then end of his tenure with the redsox.

the recent imbalanced inter division division heavy schedules can be good and bad. like the AL east which had 4/5 80+ win teams.

the redsox had to play like 80+ games against the rays/yankees/O's/Toronto.

the Oakland A's had to face the astros like 20 times this year... the astros have lost 100 games this year.

I was at the game on Sunday. It was incredible to see Yankee Stadium nearly full to capacity well before the game was set to start. Usually Yankees fans deign to show up to their seats and watch the game about 3-4 innings in and then leave before the 8th.

The ceremonies for Mo started a little late, were a bit long winded, and I don't think Metallica was used to rocking out in the early afternoon while wearing pinstripes. Too bad the Yanks left a ton of opportunities to get the win for Pettitte. Men on 2nd and 3rd with ZERO outs; two big outs at home plate to snuff out that threat...
