As important as Pujols is to this team and this city, I think the Cards did what was in their long-term best interest here. They've got big question marks at SS and 2B and in a couple of years they may need to replace Wainwright and Carpenter. They can't devote all that money for ten years to a guy who's already beginning the decline phase of his career. It's still a shame, though; Pujols is like Stan Musial here, and it would have been nice for him to finish his career wearing the birds on the bat.

There's a great article about his agent. If you can dig it up its well worth the read.

Do you mean the one from Deadspin about what a sleazeball he's been? Even by the standards of professional sports agents, he seems to be a contemptible SOB. That got lots of attention on sports radio here as soon as it came out. (I've got a 40 minute commute to work every day. Most of what I know about the Cards comes from listening to local ESPN radio on that commute. They LOVE their Cards here, and can't talk enough about them!)

Yes, the best part was how he sold himself to Pujols as this religious guy when in all actuality he's out there whoring it up. They didn't cover that type of stuff on Arliss.

He endeared himself to Mike Piazza by playing up their shared Italian-American heritage. One problem with that: Lozano is not Italian-American at all!

The big question is if having Albert in the line up will be the key ingredient in finally making Vernon Wells an MVP. I do like Howie Kendrick hitting 3rd in that line up now though.

the angels had to gear up because of the new superpower Texas Rangers and inclusion of the Astros into the AL west. Basically the angels were always lucky with the weak assed AL west with only 4 teams in the past (the sheer odds of winning the division was always higher) so they could trot out "good" teams and always be in the hunt (even this year).

"good" teams ain't cutting it no-more... you's gotsa hava "excellente" teams.

now they have to play ball (money expenditure wise and bold move wise). the AL west will now be a ******* dog fight... just like the AL East...

No man, they signed Mookie!

Nice!! Now all they have to do is play the Red Sox in the playoffs and they're golden. My O's are about to start making moves, rumor has it we're bring back Jeffery Hammonds.

As an O's fan, how do you feel about the return of the cartoon bird? I think it's great, probably because that's the hat they had when I was a kid. I never liked the ornithologically correct bird. Also, I recently learned that the name for the oriole mascot is Oriole Bird. :happy:

:slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer:

Great day to be an Angels fan. After always finishing second to everybody in the winter meetings (Tex sweepstakes, Beltre sweepstakes, Crawford sweepstakes, etc...) it feels good to finally win, even it cost (ouch) 330 mil. Though Vernon Wells is still the highest paid player on the team (****).

2012 is going to be a good, good year. The problem is what comes after that. The teams core is going to be busted pretty quick, vastly underpaid, under club control players like Aybar (gold glove SS), Kendrick (almost a .300 lifetime average), Callaspo (.282 lifetime BA) are going to be FA's. I think Hunter is gone next year too (as much as I love him, he's not worth 18.5 mil)- though #1/#2 prospect Mike Trout will replace him. Haren and Santana are leaving too (although they are paid a pretty decent 12mil and 11 mil each).
