How much did you squat today?

Hopefully this won't turn into too much of a chest thumping brofest, but just a fun way to discuss your progress on what is in many circles regarded as perhaps one of (if not the) most important lift.

I'm about 2 months back into lifting (only had lifted about a year beforehand) after a 4 month hiatus, working back towards my personal best. Today i managed 275x5x3. I was pretty excited.

On a side note, as a PSA, could you dudes who do deadlifts please switch over to any other leg exercise? 700+ pounds isnt so impressive but sure does take up a lot of 45 plates i could be usin!

how is pulling 700+ not impressive?

I can only squat my bodyweight, which is around 145 lbs. Pretty dismal because I've never really focused on my legs. That's all about to change though! And my legs are BURNING right now. Just did some squats yesterday.

Ah, I wasn't clear. The bottom line is that I don't appreciate 15 plus 45 plates being used, especially when the entire gym is busy. 700 was just a random number. I could have switched it out for a million.

If a guy can pull 700, that is totally worthy. Don't be a hater.

are you dense? 700 was a random number. I pulled it out of my ass. I'm just trying to also get my work in, brothaman.

I'm trying to get to a 1.5 BW squat. The cold weather is really throwing me off, though.

I don't ever max but I do sets of 15 with 205lbs 3 times.

I am at just under 300 pounds - 8 reps, 3 sets. I don't plan on trying to get any more than 300, I've had that as a goal for a long time.

I'm currently at 225, 7 reps, 5 sets. Which is exactly 1.5 BW for me- but I don't go all the way down because I have a bum knee.

I was doing 245 for 6x4 sets earlier in the week, I am trying a new bulk routine.

man, dont even quote me on this, but i seem to remember reading on a bodybuilding site/forum that the part where your knee is fully bent is actually the least aggravating for it. please dont just take my work and then blow it out or anything, just maybeee food for thought.

1.5x my bodyweight would be about 300 pounds. reachable!

once upon a time i could deadlift 505 x 3 now my knees and griding together like broken gears also no longer fits my profile to be so bulky - need to get in those slimfit suits

Would you be any happier if someone was using all the 45s squatting 700? I get a little grumpy if I see somebody doing 6 inch leg presses with 10 plates a side, but if they're squatting or deadlifting big, I don't see how any reasonable person could complain about it. Big guys gotta workout too. I hit 315x8 for three sets before Christmas, then was traveling and/or sick. I'd like to get to 405 again, might not hit my old max of 450x5, but four plates would be nice.

According to the biomechanical stuff I've read, this is true. But it depends on just what's screwed up about his knee. Most people who get injured squatting are doing the ol' quarter squat with way too much weight, they'd be much better off with less weight and going really deep.

This is correct. Unless your hammies start touching your calves and there is no tension. Then you are just straining your tendons.

Also, since when did squats become the holygrail of lifting? I'm trying to get better at them but people need to stop acting as if squats are God's gift.
