Yes. He would have gone himself but for his speared leg. He also sent 20 or so of Winterfell men along with Beric to capture Gregor Clegane.

At this point the books are going to be more or less a guideline for the show. It would be impossible for the series to try and follow the meandering storyline and useless characters that Martin is fond of.

Pretty much the case and I think we will see it far more often with combined events and condensed characters.
For instance the shadow baby...if I am remembering the books correctly, we don't see the birth of the one that kills renly.
The scene with Davos and the bars is him repeating his smuggling voyage to get her into the castle so that they can kill the guy who is still loyal to Renly and get the bastard kid.
It was a little odd in the show that they included the bars since Renly is sleeping in a tent and it doesn't make sense that Davos would be bringing her into some random tunnel where he is surprised to find bars if he was just trying to get her to shore.

One thing I'm glad they're keeping is how awesome of a person the Hound really is. Taking off his white cloak so Sansa can cover herself up? Like a god damned SIR.

Yeah that was a little odd. They're conflating a few scenes now, which mostly works but that example was strange.
Renly is just camped out in a tent, why would they need to smuggle anything, much less land in a cave? In the book they had to do that to get past the magical wards under Storms End. Not at all explained in the show
. I do overall like how they're cutting stuff, throwing Arya straight up to being Tywin's cupbearer removes a whole shitload of unnecessary stuff.

ar_six: season 3 is only half of the 3rd book.

You have a link for this info?

TV shows need characters that people will return and watch, just so that they can ******* hate on them. But I see your point. My girl and I were super uncomfortable -- I'd hate to be the actresses involved. I can't bare to see chix brutalized, even if it's only on screen.

Very uncomfortable. But I thought he was going to tell the older whore to penetrate the younger whore with that scepter, so at least we didn't reach that level of uncomfortable.

By the way the dude from the Thirteen was spot on. I don't remember that scene from the books but he was great.

I don't think so. He's supposed to be a pretty, fawning, sycophant who compliments Dany and all the time and wants to marry her (even though he is a ****), but really all he wants is a dragon.

<3 Ser Jorah. He's the best in the show. Real stand up guy, kind of like Ned Stark, but his priorities are actually in the right place.

lol.

That's one of the things I like about the series is the build-up. Makes you want to get to the payoff that much faster.
Can someone tell me if Ned ever dispatched Beric in season 1?

Yep. Was not a fan of the casting of Beric, but he went with some Winterfell men as another poster mentioned.

Why lol? Jorah is da man. I am going to continue with the books in hopes that they develop his character more. I really hope he gets a POV

Very minor and vague spoiler
He's lol'ing because your read on his character is...not so much.

Well, so far my read on him seems pretty good. He put the well being of his family (at least his wife) ahead of his honor, exact opposite of Stark. I hope he eventually mends ties w/ his father, if both survive long enough.

One thing about this whole series that I really appreciate, compared to other fantasy works: Martin actually gives you some really good curveballs with the characters. A number of them make really interesting transformations.

I'm not talking about Xaro, that casting choice is completely weird. I'm talking about the "humble merchant" and "trader of spices" who basically owns the entire scene.

And your comments about Xaro should have been spoiler tagged.

I liked Renly's comment to Stannis:"born amid smoke and salt? Are you a ham?"
