european/slim fit suits and americans?

well it seems that main stream television and movies have pretty much accepted the slim fit suits.

All of the television hosts, television stars ( burn notice, mad men, for example), and pretty much all of the trendy movies (james bond - tom ford, duplicity - armani, etc ).

Why dont main stream public also move towards slim fitting sillouette hugging suits and dress shirts??? Almost every guy you see is decked out in dress shirts and suits that fit like a tent. Is it because Americans are truly too fat? because when you see something on television or movies, it is technically a marketing scheme and its purpose is to make people aware and increase the propensity to buy...

i mean you dont really need to spend thousands to get fitted/tailored fit clothing straight from GQ.. even brooks brothers now have extra slim fit shirts and

Most people shop at Wal-Mart. It's easy to forget that around these parts.

Most people are not slim, if they wore slim/fitted clothes they would look like a tube steak.

yes, but dont you think the more fit and slim people they see on TV and in movies, the natural tendency to also get slim and fit would increase?

That's just not true... when something's too tight one might look like a stuffed sausage, but slimmer/fitted can work for 80% of American men imo. Maybe a euro slim fit suit won't look good, but a trimmer fit than what you see most men walking around in today... there's often just too much fabric blowing in the wind on the average guy in a suit, sadly.

Kitons made for usa in 15.5 are as 4 sizes more in european equivalency. Borrellis and Finamores are like 2 more.

So, now I know who you are on this forum, OP.

2. They shop as stores that sell oversized clothes to fit the largest group of customers and are served by poorly trained employees who'll sell anything even if it doesn't fit.
3. Most people don't even wear "dressy" clothes that often, so "who knows or cares how a suit fits"
4. Most people are poor, whatever tehy've got is good enough. it's not like because the "fashion" says slim is in they all throw out their 10 year old suits and go buy something new.

No, it is true. If you're not slim, a slim fit suit looks like ****. Most Americans are not slim.

When you see fabric billowing in the wind, it's usually because the suit is the wrong size, or because the pants are being worn too low.

a lot of acors are in pretty good shape though. slim suits look so much better, i think the actors that can pull of the slim european suits should. lets do away with extra large american suits!

Slim fit suit: suit with narrow silhouette and narrow lapels. Slim: Dunno, BMI 23 or 24 and under? EDIT: I don't think there is any universal definition of a slim fit suit. In practice, it usually means little excess fabric. But on models and runways "slim fit" suits often fit pretty loosely.
