Wanted: advice for an acting audition

Are there any actors on this board?

Last month, after being asked by the producer, I played a small role in a re-enactment scene for a documentary. It was a lot of fun. First time too.

Last week, I got a call from a friend of one of the crew who had heard I had some military experience. I am now auditioning for a role in a military sci-fi production. Have no idea on the details - on whether it's for a mere extra role or something more exciting.

Have been perusing Youtube for short clips on advice for auditions.

Any advice from experienced actors on this board on tips for a first audition?

Make sure the guy really is a producer before you suck his cock. I learned that lesson the hard way, my friend.

Go take acting classes, duh. I did some acting in the past, as my degree is in film production, but felt the risk was too much to try to make a career out of it. Instead I stuck with behind the line work, but acting was probably my other favorite craft within entertainment. What always helped me was doing a reading with one of your friends, and taping it. That's basically how it works for big auditions, and practice makes perfect I suppose. Also, it depends entirely on the role, but taping a read really helps you critique your performance. My initial roles were on-stage where you have to really project. I had to realize that on camera little actions and mannerisms have a far greater effect. Good luck. EDIT: You'd be surprised how far just showing up, confidence, and a good look will take you. But I guess that could be said for other professions as well.

I used to know a BIGTIME MOVIE PRODUCER but alas, we are no longer speaking. I am sorry I cannot be of service.

Watch the movie "the Room". Take notes, that is some real acting for you
