Need to Book a Boxing Ring in NYC for a Half-Hour?

Unfortunately, a lot of regular gyms in NYC don't allow real boxing fights to take place due to liability issues. I'm looing to book a ring for a half-hour sometime over the coming week. Any suugestions would be appreciated.

Ha! Nah - not me. A couple of guys at the office got talking, everyone has placed a ridiculous number of bets, and I've been tasked with finding an appropriate spot where we can determine the winner.

Really won't be that hardcore - a couple of middle-aged Wall Street professionals banging away at one another for less than 10 min.

So, any suggestions?

The problem you are going to have is the liability insurance. If you were a member at Gleasons in Brooklyn, you could swing it if everyone using the ring was also a member but you are going to have a tough time getting a gym to let some unsupervised, uninsured guys knock each other in a ring. I know of a basement ring or two, but I doubt that is what you are looking for.

what he said, too much liability for the gym involved. best bet is to join a gym for a month.

sounds like you should just set it up in someone's basement.

Thanks Ed. Just the problem I'm running into.

Talking w/ Gleasons now - offering to buy a day pass at a ridiculously inflated price. Hope they go for it.

and they will have to wear 16 ounce gloves, headgear and mouth pieces. the gym will get in shit if they don't. sounds like a great project.

why do you need a ring? i agree that all you need is to get two pairs of gloves at sports authority and find a basement or something. extra points if you have the fight in a conference room at the office

Preferably on the table.

I'd get a ring strictly for the "Jim had Dale against the ropes for like 30 seconds man" comments.

Saw a story about a year ago - maybe on 60 Minutes - about a few NYC boxing gyms that have mostly white collar guys working out on late nights and weekends. You may have to take a few classes before they let you loose, but sparring seemed to be the big draw. I've done Judo for a few years. We have live sparring and I've been choked out once - totally painless, but I wouldn't want to get hit in the face. I have no interest in that whatsoever. Mike Tyson used to say, everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face. I imagine it will be an ugly situation.

My guess is these sidewinders will hurt themselves more than each other. And they will get REALLY tired REALLY fast. I would put money on two outcomes: two dudes hunched over, catching their breath while the counter runs; and/or two dudes wincing in pain after colliding their bony forearms together.
