First Look: Abin Sur, From Green Lantern Posted on Thursday, July 22nd, 2010 by Russ Fischer Over the past few years, Warner Bros. has started to bring larger, more interesting props to Comic Con. Recently it was the Owl Ship from Watchmen, which, no matter how you felt about the film, was a great piece of construction to walk around in. (OK, crawl around in.) This year, the big prop is a model of Abin Sur, the alien that gives Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) his ring and power in Green Lantern. In the main Warner Bros. booth, in which you can also find quite a few Harry Potter props (which we’ll have pictured in a different gallery) was the coffin-like pod in which is contained the purple, wounded body of Abin Sur resides. As you can see from the images below, the model (one used on set in the film, or so we were told) is quite detailed.
The model looks quite like Temuera Morrison, too, which is appropriate as the actor is playing Abin Sur in the film. We don’t know if there’s a full-body suit that Morrison wore during shooting, or if post-processing was used to create much of his look as the alien character.

Abin Sur looks great, although he kind of reminds me of Zordon from the first Power Rangers movie.

Who wants to make fun of RFX first?

The official Green Lantern website has launched at GreenLantern.com and, while the current website is pretty sparse, it does offer an all-new animated look at the film's official logo.

Green Lantern stars Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern, Blake Lively as Carol Ferris, Mark Strong as Sinestro and Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond with a supporting cast that includes Tim Robbins, Taika Waititi, Temuera Morrison, Angela Bassett, Jay O. Sanders and Jon Tenney. Directed by Martin Campbell, the film hits theaters June 17, 2011.

UPDATE: The source code for the site confirms that Parallax is the villain as it includes the following synopsis:

GREEN LANTERN - In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.

I liked Dark Knight just fine, and like Christopher Nolan quite a bit but it's not even in the top five. Honestly, I think Batman Begins was superior. The best comic book movie of all time was Road to Perdition. Superman: The Movie is a strong second. V for Vendetta, Sin City, etc., there are quite a few that rate higher than the TDK. At any rate, I will check out the GL film. I'm one of the few who has always preferred DC to Marvel, though I read both. Comic book movies tend to be so uneven in quality that I try not to prejudge them.

EDIT: Oh and A History of Violence is up there as well and I just realized how old the post was I responded to and I have had more than enough to drink.

I like all those movies, but to me, TDK still tops it.

As for the GL movie, that vid give me a bit of hope. The costume isn't as bad as I was expecting. I will see it either way but I am slightly more hopeful now.

Heath Ledgers performance alone makes the movie worth a watch. I mean if TDK, which can arguably be the best comic book movie if all time, is being deemed horrible by some here, I really can't say they will enjoy this movie much. I think it has to be seen like you are about to watch a Michael Bay movie, just enjoy and try to be entertained by the action and explosions. Do not expect to be stimulated mentally coming to the theater.
TDK was awesome. It was not just an amazing comic book movie, but a great movie period. It's going to go down as a classic. I have noticed that the majority of people who hate on it seem to nit pick minor things like Batman's voice, which is really telling. Some just feel they have to anti-hype anything that blows up big and becomes successful. As for GL, I'm a huge fan of the comic right now. I have mixed feeling about the casting as Hal, but am going into it with an open mind. It's crazy that they are making it in the first place.

I said a "little bit of hope" and that the costume doesn't look as bad on the marketing pics. I still have a feeling it will disappoint big time but with that vid, it shows that some of the decisions (like cgi costume) might actually work.
