coming home from SFO on the 85 yesterday I saw an amber alert about this, 350 miles away ...

There's been no traffic to speak of. Everybody stayed off the roads, apparently. We went out last night and our babysitter's husband and son went to the Galaxy/Madrid game yesterday and there was a ton of traffic right around the Coliseum (as you'd expect whenever there's an event there), but nothing on the 110 through downtown and north to Mt Washington.

And they're done early, freeway about to reopen. What a let down - there was not a hitch all weekend long. In fact, it was kind of great. I think we need to find new ways to keep Angelenos scared of leaving home every weekend (bioterror scare?) - I want the beaches to myself.

ho-hum. been through these before. the 1984 olympics were supposed to be the worst traffic known to man. ended up you could just fly down the freeways. same thing after the sfv earthquake, when the bridge was down. i do second the idea of taking metro, though. it's actually a pretty great way to travel (as compared to freeways). i take the blue line/red line into downtown almost every day.

I guess our grizzled Angeleno was correct. As Baron says, it was a non-event as everyone seemed to stay home, and the job was completed 17 hours ahead of schedule. OK, all you game theorists, what happens in Carmageddon 2? Will everyone see that this was a non-event, and not stay home, thereby bringing about the Carpocalypse?

I took the Metro, and I'm not sure industrial parks and the backs of strip malls that are mostly on the orange line route could be considered scenic. The red line felt like a bonafide subway, and older than it seemed. It wasn't terribly crowded.

The area around encino and sherman oaks, when it goes through the farms and parks is nice. Guess it depends on the time of year, but I would have assumed this would be a decent time. I wasn't trying to imply that it looked like driving down on hwy 1.

No worries. I was just channelling my inner Eeyore, and I had a companion to distract me. I think the scenic routes were kind of blocked off by the tall hedges and walls. Also, the on-board monitor kept throwing trivia questions mostly about cell phone technology at us, and that was distracting, too.
