Cedar shoe trees in Singapore

Actually Muji sells cedar trees for about SGD30 a pair. They're sold out at the Ion shop now, though.

Anyone interested to get shoe trees? Thought of getting from cedarville. Guys that ordered previously, how much was shipping? Thanks

I am interested in getting some shoe trees as well. I just emailed Cedarvillestores yesterday about shipping 2 pairs of Men's Combination Shoe Trees and they replied that shipping would cost $24.89USD.

I also separately emailed the ebay seller for this item about a possibility of discounts for bulk purchasing. For 10 pairs, he estimated shipping to cost roughly $85USD and for 20 pairs, to be $160USD. He was also willing to offer a discount to $20USD per pair.

Are any of you interested? We may be able to get a bulk order going.

I emailed Cedarvillestore for shoe trees in general and was quoted the shipping charges below. I calculated the shipping fee per pair in the brackets. Its kinda erratic and reckon its best to get 8 pairs. I'll be getting 2/3 ultra or epic shoe tree (haven't decided) for myself. Anyone wants to combine orders? I think they're called Full Shoe Trees on the Cedarville website, but they're much cheaper on ebay. Shipping took about a week. I'm in no immediate need of shoe trees but I will be open to getting one or two more if anyone wants to combine shipping.

The shipping seems quite expensive ($30 + $10 per additional pair). Targeting to get 8 pairs. Currently we roughly have:

apjw - 2
crimsonwave - 1/2

I ordered 5 combi shoe trees from Cedarville - shipping came up to US $45 but with tracking.

The difference between these and those shoe trees you see at various cobblers is that the aromatic cedar have that cedar smell that repels whatever odors your shoes might have.

Don't mind having 2 more larges though.

I think we have enough interested parties to start an order. I'll consolidate and proceed with orders once we hit 8 pairs. Hope u guys don't mind me charging 1.3 for FX for simplicity (I can't possibly charge 1.2!). Total shipping costs will be divided by 8.

On the subject of shoe trees, Muji ION has a very limited few aromatic cedar ones in stock on Sunday. Get them quick! $43 a pair.

Also since this is the most active Singapore thread on Men's Clothing, I gonna ask 2 questions non-thread related. Sorry for digressing.

- Raoul shirts: I'm always leery of them. But with GSS @ its deepest markdown, is it worth buying a few staple white / blue basic poplin dress shirt for the office? Or am I better off ordering BB ESF / Charles Tyrwhitt from overseas (which is what I have been doing in the past)

- Whats a good material for a suit to beat the heat? I'm thinking of visiting HK in December, might want to go the MTM route, so would a wool/cotton blend be suitable? Or is there a RTW version around? Suits here are real overpriced.

I really wouldn't bother about the Raoul shirts. Find yourself a proper tailor and get some made.

I'd be interested in the trees if you guys are still doing the order.

Mohair/wool blend. Or a lightweight wool.

MTM's worth it in HK but only if you can squeeze in enough fittings.

+1 on not bothering with Raoul shirts. I quite like their recent designs, but the shirts lose all shape and size, and get frayed way too quickly, with merely 2-3 laundry cycles.

Charles T is nicer, but I'm now very fond of TM Lewin's "John Francomb Fully Fitted" line. The shape is fantastic, nothing like the usual baggy crap from TM Lewin, and the collar is a great length for people who wear suits (the collar stays under the lapel for a polished look).

Or, just get custom made from CTC. The fitting of collars and wing area is really worth it.

As for suits, depending on your job sector, a wool/cotton material looks quite cheap. There's a lot of light and yet 100% wool fabric from Loro Piana or Scabal, but my favorite workhorses are the Trofeo (Zegna) fabric or the relatively recent "cool" fabric from Zegna. It costs a bit more but I rag my suits almost daily and not a single fabric line in the world holds as well as Zegna. I take red eye flights to Hong Kong and Seoul all the time, and end up in meetings the next morning straight from the airport in my Zegna, and don't look disheveled or crumpled at all. So it's a worthy investment.

Shirts wise, I suspect you'll be better off getting a couple while you're in HK in December.

As for the suitings, it's hard to depart from the lightweight wools while staying within the confines of conservative business dress.

Yes. I think only the truly clueless buy suits at retail price in Singapore! Get yours on eBay or Sierra Trading Post or eHaberdasher. Much nicer selections going at any time and 1/4th the price at Ion etc.
