Summer Shoe: What To Get?

I need something for the summer... preferably something that is:

1. comfortable and cool (temperature-wise)
2. slips on and off easily (prefer laces on them)
3. can be worn sockless
4. looks good with shorts (but also fine with jeans or chinos)

My first thought has been boat shoes, but realized leather = hot. So now thinking of going canvas, which are breathable, right? And if they do get smelly from the no socks... can wash them easily. So, canvas seems like the best choice? However, not sure that I want canvas boat shoes.

But there seem to be TONS of canvas sneaker choices, but no idea what to choose.

Other than thinking that white is nice for the summer look and is versatile... I have no idea what else to look for.

Any suggestions?

Yes, I know there are shoes like Chuck Taylor, Jack Purcells, Vans, etc... But just asking for opinions, new suggestions, etc. No need for the sarcasm. But thank you for suggestion, even if not a huge Chuck Taylor fan.

If you don't like Chucks then you don't like Chucks. I made a non baller sneaker thread for the cheapo guys out there. I kind of like Supergas and it doesn't really have to be white.

A simple and quality all leather boat shoe or moccasin would be my preference. RE odor/durability, canvas sneakers get pretty haggard, and are not all that much 'cooler' than leather. Possibly invest in an nice moc or boat shoe from quoddy or arrow? I blew through 3 pairs of vans and a pair of toms in 3 months of last summer- but so far this year I have already got a lot of use out of my yuketen boat shoes (when it gets hot, I just take them off). I feel like quality leather retains its own smell, rather than absorbs yours.

If you want to go canvas, PF Flyers are so supposed to be miles more comfortable than Chuck Taylors. They also look awesome. Perhaps the Albin? Of course, I like boat shoes, but they do sometimes seem to make my feet sweat.

They are for real more comfortable. I was a non-believer until I tried some on, and bought them immediately

This is a really difficult question to answer, especially considering there have been hardly any other threads here on this topic.

Don't get canvas boat shoes. Thus far for me they smell and they get hot. I would love to clean it via soap/washer machine but i feel that they will get ruined and teared up to bits so invest in some leather boat shoes. I believe they are cooler than canvas.

I've never felt my leather boat shoes were ever too hot when sockless, even in 90 degree weather. I would not get a canvas shoe to wear sockless unless you plan to wash it often.

+1 for leather boat shoes. I'm a Sperry convert this summer.
