Thank you for your insightful, constructive criticism. I am glad that you're continuing your tradition of helpful commentary.

The thing about the Duke and 4x1 is that it's really a question of competitive advantage. Yes, he looks good in some of his 4x1 jackets (though I'm not as fond of them as most here are), but would he look better in a single breasted jacket, or a 6x2, or 4x2 buttoned normally? I'd suggest he'd look just as good, if not better, in either single-breasted or 6x2 jackets. And don't forget that this is after taking into account the fact that his 4x2/1 jackets are bespoke and so tailored very well to fit him and flatter him as much as possible.

There's a lot of talk about his 4x1 roll lengthening his look... perhaps it's true. But I suspect that more of the effect is really down to his items fitting him well.

That's really what I am trying to work out - whether it's worth the little bit of money it will take to get this to fit right as a 4x1 versus the little bit more it'd cost to make a 4x2.

Though I want to make this work, I realize it may not be worth it. And I know the results will never jive with SF groupthink.

Everyone complains about the harsh tone of some of the critics on here but when people tell you in a nice enough way that the suit doesn't look good, you don't listen and push the issue.

You post your inspiration for the 4 x 1 and I point out that sadly, yours look nothing like them.

What more help do you need?

I am listening. I am trying to get insight other than "it looks bad."

"It looks bad" is about as unhelpful as one can be.

Better (paraphrasing):
"It looks bad because it's a dated 80s style." -UC

"It does you no favors as it currently looks." -HF (In response to my noting the buttoning issue).

I like to know when I look bad. Knowing why helps more.

If it's because the guys here don't like 4x1s, that's one thing. If it's because this particular 4x1 looks bad, that's another. If there's a way I can remedy it, great. If it's simply not fixable, then that's also good to know.

Trust me that I am the last person to get my panties in a bunch when people tell me something doesn't work. But I like knowing why.

acecow - thank you. They are Paul Smith Fentons. Urban - thanks. You are correct. You should get in on the pre-order if you can at ePaulet for the next batch. Better photo: Lufty - your "old man with flair" steez is normally on point, but this suit falls a bit short. It makes your legs look like churros and the buttoning point appears to be at your ballsack. I get what you are trying to accomplish but this isn't making the grade.

Fair enough. I don't think the issue is whether it's a 4 x1 or 4 x 2.

The issue is that the front balance is completely off - it looks like the jacket is collapsing inwards on itself. To remedy this, a tailor would have to open up the seams along the neck and shoulders and 'pull it up' from there.

Not a cheap nor easy procedure.

Aren't you supposed to be burning the mid night oil to prepare for some meetings with some big shots?

Bill-able hours huh?

This is an utterly uninformed impression, but: I agree with Trini's second, more helpful comments. I don't think it's the buttoning style, though, I think it's the gorge. If I scroll down so I can't see the lapel peaks, it looks good. Slim, nice fit, maybe pulling a little but that doesn't bother me like it does some. The low. low gorge and huge, huge lapels seem like they're weighing down your shoulders. You look slumped, when I don't think you're actually slumped. I think the Duke suffers from the same effect, but it looks like the weight of the empire on him. It seems to me that those who've been open about their shoulder issues have eventually decided on higher gorges (c.f. PG). Maybe a higher buttoning point would balance it out, I dunno.

I agree with everything Trini has said, as well as Schorsch here. Even his first so called "unhelpful' comment. It doesn't look good, and I agree that you should get rid of it. I don't think much more than that needs to be said.

This outfit would be great for all those threads in which people ask, "what is sprezz?" To me, the suede tassels with that suit/shirt/tie combo is the definition of sprezz.

You'd be surprised at how rugged suede can be. Many have a misconception that suede is delicate. It is tougher than you think...

This was the inaugural wear for the tie - really just testing its versatility. It passes.

I cant believe I need a bolder PS.

Spoo: Holy ufck Spoo - The tie/shirt/jacket play is top notch. And you made the right choice on pants/shoes. Slight nitpick on a bolder p/s ... but overall bravo my dude!!

Thanks a lot Nii. I cant believe I need a bolder PS

Lufty I went for the Duke look too in my custom DB but there's a reason why I ended up changing it to a more typical DB suit. That some hard stuff to make look good despite the vintage feel that I know you want to get. I still think mine never looked bad, but it certainly looked a lot better as a more typical DB suit.
