I agree with the comments about the EG shirt. Although I generally like the design of the Japanese work shirt there is something that doesn't quite work with the red chambray fabric. At least from the pictures, the red chambray of the JCrew shirt has a nicer grainy quality to it than EG shirt.

Now the only question remains when am I going to be able to cop one!

Unless you feel ripped-off, don't return the shirt, Seany, it looks great on you and you have to right outfit to wear it.

I'm not returning the shirt, I'm just trying to return it for a smaller size. Problem is I can't return it for an extra small because no stores around me has it in that size, and it doesn't hit J.Crew.com till mid April. So im stuck with the shirt till April =/

I love it. I can see the hate for the shirt, But where else can you get a red chambray for 83 bucks !?

I was in my local store over the weekend and saw the vintage paint splattered sweatshirt. Not exactly sure who would buy this.

I have a vintage c. 1961 Dobie Gillis red chambray shirt (tab skinny collar, popover style with pointed bottom). It's much redder even though it is obviously a white weft. Has a slighly shiny, vaguely shantung finish and a not red red but definitely not pink tone. The finer weave and the thicker red thread make it much less pink but also less graphic/crispy. If y'all want to see what non-workwear chambray looked like back in the day, let me know, I may try to post pix.

"We do expect to receive the size xsmall, so what we can do is submit a presell for you. This is basically a pre-order that we submit for you, so that once it does become available here, we can go ahead and ship it out to you. As of right now, the date we expect to receive this shirt is 4/13/10."-J.Crew

I also saw the vintage paint splattered sweatshirt, I didn't like it. But thought it was pretty cool concept. If I wanted a sweatshirt w. paint on it, I would buy a sweatshirt from Modells and paint my room.

Also, the red chambray isn't on their website yet. I couldn't find it using the item number.

And the red chambray has surfaced and looks exactly as I suspected. The guys surprised by the true non-photoshopped color crack me up. The sunwashed red color is the nature of chambray using red and white threading.

I dig the fact that it appears to have a linen blend making it more "airy" for spring/summer. I'll check it out to see if my store carries it. Thanks for the pics.

I must say, I am amazed by how much the red chambray looks like a typical red chambray!
