Hello everyone

First time poster here - with a likely silly question

I've been an active reader for the past few months in the attempt to boost my style knowledge after landing a job that required business casual out of college

After learning that my kenneth cole and magnanni shoes aren't anything that will last me a while, I decided it was time to get some real man shoes: Allen Edmonds. After seeing the sale, I hit up nordstrom to try on some strands (same last as the mcallisters i want to purchase, and nordstrom didn't carry them at my store). The 10D fit me pretty well - was comfortable in every regard aside from maybe a slighttt bit of pressure on the inside of my big toes. My question is regarding the uppers...even after trying as tight as possible, i have about a half inch to 3/4 inch gap between the uppers. Is this considered awkward looking in terms of wearing the shoe like that? Should i consider trying a slightly wider shoe (like a 10E) in attempt to have the uppers touch each other when laced up? Or is that irrelevant in general...

To my knowledge, the uppers should NOT touch eachother when laced up. A bit of a gap is good.

Here are my Walnut Lombards. I'll post the McAllisters when I get some photos taken.

Here are Walnut McAllisters I picked up today.

I noticed the performations on the toe are different. I think I actually prefer the McAllister toe.

This is very true. I've used the walnut AE polish on the Strands because I like the darker tint, but you need to use a lighter polish if you want to maintain. For example, on my brown Delrays and Malverns, I use saddle brown because I feel the recommended dark brown was darkening them too much.

So exactly what AE polish should I use to retain the light tint on the McAllisters?

Hi,

I have been visiting the SF site off and on for a while, but this is my first posting and do have a question for you folks.

I have an AE Weybridge Walnut Calf and I do like the minimalistic work. Recently I saw the McAllister and New Orleans at Nordstrom and I am interested in buying one of those. My personal preference is to buy another Walnut Calf but I am unable to decide between the McAllister and New Orleans. Any recommendations?

I'm wondering if the Macallister is worth it for $245?

Just to add to this, I already have the Flatirons in Black, and the the Vernons in Saddle Brown. The McAllister looks like an amazing shoe though, just need reassurance that they're a good purchase at $245.

Gonna break in my first pair of AEs (Brown Jeffersons) on Wednesday during a work related trip to Dallas. I have read that some people will use lexol leather conditioner before their first use. Is that safe to do? Any input is appreciated!

Ok, guys. Pulled the trigger on some Sheltons for $169. First big surprise: free shipping! I thought there was a standard $10 or $15 charge when having shoes shipped from the outlets. First time ordering 2nds. I tried to get some shell leeds 2nds when they had their last sale but they were out in my size. :(. Wish me luck that I'll get some good ones.
I'll post some pix and overall experience when I get them.

Black and Burgundy?

I picked up a pair a few weeks back. They are calf (not the cobbler's leather of old). There was a "scratching" issue with the cobbler's leather so AE changed to the standard calf.

Also everytime I ordered a pair of AEs the shipping has been free.

There is a sale coming around Father's Day but I was told that the black and burgundy Sheltons won't be inclulded in that sale but some other colors will.

Here's to your pair being in great condition!!!:bigstar:

Very Nice!!

IMO it is a good buy at $245. But ultimately only you can decide what they are worth to you. Doubt you will have any regrets though.

I have not used Lexol but reading on here and elsewhere many people like it. My preference is Sahpir Renovator and on new shoes I first brush them then a very light coat of Renovator and brush again. Depending on the new shoe I will wear them several times in the evenings at home to help break them in before wearing them all day, that can be very important to being comfortable all day the first time out. Good luck and hope those Jefferson's treat you well.

Cold Iron and New Shoes1,
Extremely helpful!
I'll avoid using the walnut polish. I'll either get the AE (likely) or Saphir Cognac. I don't mind the original colour changing a bit over time, but I don't want it to darken much and I'd like the tones to remain varied and rich.
Thank you very much for the advice.

Yes, try on the 10E first, it should help the toe cramming and allow you to have nice even gaping when lacing. Enjoy.
