To be honest I think its that the toe cap could use a bit of elongation. The chisel toe looks a bit wide, almost square toed with the short toe cap, seen here:
I just don't think it has the same elegance as say the C&J hallam.
I see your point, but not much compares to the C&J 348 last. I think part of the problem, though, is that AE puts the captoe line too close to the toe, which accentuates the appearance of a short, stubby toe. I've been looking at a C&J Brooks Brothers model and the AE 5th Avenue lately and this seems to be the major difference between the two. I think if the captoe line on this shoe were moved closer to the laces it would look even better. Still, I am really liking this new 3 last from AE; it's a breath of fresh air from them.
