I have a shell cordovan question: I recently bought a pair of Leeds and a pair of Dundees, both seconds and in 8.5D. I started wearing them at home for 2-3 hours at a stretch to break them in.

The Dundees developed a couple of ripples on each shoe at the second wearing but the Leeds did not. I have now worn the Leeds for an entire day (out of the house) and it still has no ripples.

What could be the reason for the Dundees getting the ripples almost immediately and the Leeds not getting them at all?

The ripples are nothing more than where the shoe would normally develop breaks on a calf shoe.

I'm guessing the other one is not developing any ripples (breaks) possibly because the Leeds are shaped differently, and possibly because Allen Edmonds is using something extra in the toe of this shoe..

can anyone provide a bit more info on ae seconds sale as to which shoes would be on special.
below are my dalton first quality. Got them from amazon for $235 shipped during sale. I am a US 8EEE since the didnt have my size took a chance on 9D ! Fit is good. Just a little bit long. A tiny bit. But lace up nicely and a tiny bit heel slip. Which should go away in few wears. I have realized these are shorter than my Fifth St boot which is 8.5D.

The shell MTO's in this thread are incredible.
I agree, just fantastic.
Love those boots! I look forward to a side by side comparison with your new Cappuccino Bayfields!
You got it Cali, the wait is starting to kill me after all these pictures of shell Bayfields. I'm calling them Monday to get an update, I can't take it any more!
Last MTO landed today... the infamous Mora in Walnut Shell.

On my wish list of discontinued models, the Mora was a tie for first with the Fairfax; i.e. what started this whole obsession.
I was on the fence about the Ball and Buck special order and decided to keep trolling eBay and other places for the right look. When Paul made the MTO offer, the Mora was my first choice for MTO.

These were literally stunning right out of the box... I stared at them for about five mins straight before taking some pics.
VERY impressed by the craftmanship of AE on these and can't say enough about how smooth and efficient the process was with Allison and the entire MTO "SWAT" team.

These were to be my last AE purchase for a while until I saw the Pine Rivers.. alas, PRs in distressed brown are on order and heaven forbid some of the special makeup boots posted recently on eBay are released this fall.
But enough of my story, enjoy the pics wear your AEs in good health.

They turned out beautiful horsey, I'm not generally a fan of monk strap shoes but yours could easily convert me! In fact think they already did.

So it was nice and sunny in SoCal today and I decided to take my shell on a field trip. I'm sure anyone who passed by was wondering what kind of grown man takes pictures of his shoes.

Here are my shell shoes:

The ever-popular walnut shell cordovan. For those of you who wondered what the difference is between walnut and cappuccino, take a look at the Shelton on the right:

The difference between Cappuccino on the left and Brown on the right. There does not to be much difference between these two pairs, but remember there is variation between even the same color of shell. It's hard to explain, but my cappuccino shell glows almost "golden" in person.

The three MacNeils:

New burgundy on the left, vs. old burgundy on the right.

From left to right: brown, cappuccino, walnut, ndew burgundy, old burgundy, black.

Now the only real question is: can I ship all of them to Cold Iron so he can shine them so they actually glow like his?
I know that I said that I couldn't wait until you posted a family picture but that is pure shell Appreciation, great job!!

Not sure that mine glow much more than yours?! But trout season is over in 2 weeks, but then bird season starts a week after that until Jan 1. Jan 1 is also the "Red Eye" opener when I start shooting for Mn. against the great state of Wi. in the Blizzard shoots for the next 3 months. But... you know as I get older can't say I enjoy shooting much any more when it is 20 below and wind chill sometimes gets down to 50-60 below zero and I feel every screw and pin holding my body together. So I'm thinking I have some free time starting in the beginning of next year?

If it helps some of the things that I do to get shell to shine: Uncle Mac talks about brushing right after he gets home. I agree shell seems to respond better to brushing when it is still warm from the heat of your feet, I think it helps bring the oils up to the top. His brush never leaves the shoe and he says it is all in the wrist. So I started trying different methods of brushing and discovered that by using your wrist when coming back on a stroke change the angle. Can't do something as drastic as say a 90 degree cross hatch but can certainly change the angle by 30 degrees or more and that seems to make a difference. I use an almost wet rag, it is much more than damp. And after 5 minutes or so if the shine isn't increasing start over by wetting them down again and brushing some more. For the final buffing I've tried every flannel and cotton there is but nothing can compare to a microfiber cloth IME, that is the only cloth that has made much of a difference to me. Hope that helps.

Again what a wonderful selection and collection of shell, well done.

I think it is just the shape of the shoe and the way your foot fits within. The most pronounced rolls always come quickest on Chukkas for me. Grab a brush and don't give it a second thought :)

I was wondering if they were on different lasts and that was the reason

Interesting that happens most on Chukkas for you. These are my first pair of chukkas - I like the look (and the rolls look cool too :) ) and can't wait to wear them outside this week.

Most likely going to try to stop by the AE store today, but figured I'd ask anyway...

I'm a 8D in the 5 last. Would I most likely be my TTS, 8.5D in the 1 last? Looking at either the Leeds or Dundee next.

Can anyone give me details or a link about the MTO offer that people are talking about from Paul? I've been thinking about looking at getting my first pair of Alden Cordovan boots but these AE MTOs look so beautiful I might have to stick with AE

I emailed Paul about 10 or 11 days ago and never heard back from anyone. I don't know how many SF members took him up on his offer, but it seems to be quite a few. He is probably sick of us emailing him! I am in the middle of an email conversation with cust. service, now. I just asked about this deal in my last email so I am hoping to have an answer after the weekend. I'll post the results.
