I bought my all football neumok through the AE retail store, and the salesman suggested using AE neutral premium shoe polish. I'm not sure how necessary that is, but better safe than sorry, I suppose.

Natural sounds like the right idea; I wouldn't want to lose the color texture. Maybe just a light coat but I kind of want them to have a slight worn look....maybe?

I decided to pull the trigger on a pair of Walnut Players (seconds) from the shoe bank. The sales rep over the phone told me to size up 1/2 for this shoe compared to my Park Avenue 5 last size. I've scoured this thread for talk of the Players and it seems that for the people that it did fit for, they just went with their normal size. Only a few sized up. I hope mine fit well.

I just received snuff suede players. I wear a 9.5E in the 5 last. I went with a 10D in the players - it is more snug and narrow. The right shoe fits perfectly but the left is tight on the ball of my foot.

Looks like Amazon is currently matching the Anniversary Sale $250 price on merlot McAllister firsts (although other colors seem to be full price and not every size is available). You can also get a 20% off code if you sign up for their shoe emails, which brings the price down to $199. Boca Raton is also on sale for $219, which brings it to $175 if you use the 20% off code.

Thank you for that! I just ordered a pair, $199.92 with free shipping!!

Thank you! Just order the Boca Raton and the Amoks with this deal. Really appreciate it.

Ready to kick up some dust on the Vegas strip

I just scored a pair of Boca Ratons through the Amazon deal myself!

If you wear 9D for Elgins (5 last, dublin leather) and the Cordovan Townleys (1 last) and an 8.5 E in the Park Avenue (5 last), do you think a 9D will cut it for the Boca Ratons (3 last)?

RIght after Mr. Grangaards email offering a deal on MTO I emailed him about getting a custom longwing in a lighter colored shell. We had a nice back and forth email re: my collection of AE's. On Monday I got a call from his team and we discussed some options. Yesterday I received samples of the shell walnut and shell cappuccino. My initial thought was to get the Macneil in shell walnut cordovan, with a double reverse welt sole. Although, there is the William Williams and Larchmont that intrigue me also. I currently own the Williams in black custom calf, but do not have a pair of Macneils. What is the opinion of the loyal SF readers. Is the Macneil the best way to go, or should I consider a different style? My concern is that since the Macneil is made in cordovan already, in 2 colors, that is may come available at some point in the future in other colors as those colors become available... and my MTO might be a commons shoe. But, if I go with the Larchmont or Williams, I will truly have a shoe that is basically a one of a kind. Thoughts everyone???

I'm a fan of the larchmont in general, so that would be my pick.

You probably don't want to hear from me, then. I took advantage of the extensive customization possibilities inherent in his offer by having a MacNeil done up in... burgundy cordovan, just in a size not currently offered as "a commons shoe". ;)

It twists my brain a bit to think of such a sleek gunboat-esque shoe, but I think the Larchmont would look phenomenal in a lighter shade of shell.

How do you go about getting the shell patriots at that price?

I just purchased a pair of Townley's in Brown Shell from the Jefferson store. Total price shipped was $258. Looking forward to getting them here next week. Im also thinking og getting the patriot loafers in Brown Shell. I've been wanting the Alden LHS version forever but you can't find it in Cigar or Ravello and even I could they would be $700+ while the patriots in shell are around $360. Anyone know how these fit?

Finally found a store that carries AE, tried on a McTavish in my normal size of 8.5D US- was surprised that when laced they were a rather large V shape between the laces instead of parallel. Is this because it is a casual shoe, or should all laceup shoes lace pretty much parallel when they fit properly?

They fit in length and across the ball of my foot, just wondered about the laces...

Also these were in a combination store in the Dubai Mall, and I told the clerk they should be sent back to be sold as seconds- when off the foot and laced so the leather was touching, the left shoestring holes did not line up with each other. With both shoes bar-laced, the right was horizontal but the left was at about a 5-10 degree angle off horizontal.

Missed this yesterday, thanks!

Three pairs in three days.....the first step is admitting you have a problem.

A pleasant AE story from the morn...

I went to Whole Foods this morning for breakfast before work and was approached by an elderly gentleman while putting sugar in my coffee.

'Pardon me, son, but what type of shoes are those?' was his question.

'Allen Edmonds', I said.

'Ah, an outstanding choice! I have a few pair of Allen Edmonds myself, one pair I'm sure is older than you. Did you know they will recraft them for you? Come out just like new.'

We spent a few minutes talking about the benefits if a quality shoe and told me it brought a great joy to him to see a young person taking the time to look presentable and care for his shoes properly. He was a WWII vet and I gladly listened to his war stories rather than read my book (The Grapes of Wrath) as intended.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank the fine men in this thread for helping me gain the knowledge to be able to have an educated conversation with such a man.

I wish you all a pleasant weekend.
