also, dont forget when buying these:

--pick up the Sole Edge Dressing that matches the sole of the shoe

--pick up the matching AE polish - for colors other than black especially, you'll need a polish that is an exact color match, which typically you wont find at your local shoe store

Except their walnut polish isn't an exact match and makes it a more orange tone. I like this and use the walnut polish, but many don't.

Pretty sweet deal. No idea how the 333 last is though.

Of the choices, I'm with everyone else:  McTavish.    Its the most versatile.  By any chance, is he a student?  There is a sale going on:

Would a Strand be too formal/dress?

I didn't know they offered that promotion, that's a really awesome deal. Would you recommend the strand or mcallister?

Hmmm.  I think if you ask the thread on this, the general consensus would be the Strand, and I am also in that group.  But that choice, is really mostly just cap-toe brogue or wing-tips.  It really would depend on what your boyfriend would prefer to wear.

Another way to look at this, is you'll probably want him to wear your gift when you go out, right?  Just my opinion, but if you are going to lots of clubs, then something less formal would be more appropriate like the 2 "mok's".  Fancy restaurants, probably lean more towards Strands.  McT's sort of bridge the two, IMHO.  But they aren't part of that sale.

@shades9323 - Wouldn't recommend down in length. More like try 8D first, then go back to your usual 8E. Again, its a bal so high arch impacts how wide it feels.

I don't really know. I just started buying from AE this year.

I do notice that the The City is listed as a regular item for sale on the web site now -- though only black are still at the sale price. As of last week, they didn't even list the Mocha color, but it's available at full price $385 right now. Maybe they will be able to get me the goods!  I won't see them until the new year, I'm sure, but I'm hopeful. The price is ridiculously cheap for a first-quality shoe in exactly the style I was waiting for.

I was wearing a pair this evening. In the far superior Bob's Chili color, of course!

They're great shoes. Some folks complain about the aggressive brogueing, but I love it. I even hit the toes and seams with black to pop the brogueing and stitching and accentuate the patina. It is not nearly as wild a look as you might expect when you're actually wearing the shoe. I tend to wear mine business casual or with denim, where they draw a lot of compliments. They dress up jeans just enough to be very rock and roll.

The only thing about these shoes is that they are on the 201 last, which is designed for a higher instep than most AE shoes. This is a great thing for me, as I'm not so flat footed as the masses here, but as a blucher they tend to be roomy for people with a low instep. If they don't fit perfectly, AE will do you right, though, so no need to worry.

Had a doctors appointment and afterwards hit up a BCF and MJM in Pinebrook, NJ.  Thought I'd post some pics and prices if anyone is in the area and interested.

Have small feet?  Dalton seconds (l to r) 5EEE, 5EEE, and 5.5EEE. $119.99 but 2 of them were marked down to $59.99.  My guess is the store (MJM) will honor the $59.99 on any of them if you ask.  They had 2 more pairs (one of each size).

Also at that MJM, Gobi 9.5D  $69.99 (no seconds mark):

And Shaker Heights 10.5B, $89.99 but they looked a little beat up:

Same store also had a bunch of suede McGregor seconds in assorted colors, sized 9-11.

At the BCF found these 5 pairs of Knightsbridges 9.5D $99.99 They had some other random styles too.

Also last week saw these at the Cohoe's at Jersey Garden Mall:

Forgot the name of the Black/Red pair, the Shakers are the ones with the leather panels 9D and there were 2 pairs:

Strands 10.5EEE (ignore the '9' sticker) (I think these were $119.99)

@ace13x Do you know how many times I asked the retail store and outlet if the Ridgeway was available? Didn't even care which one, but wanted black patent with red stitch. This is like a sick joke - please tell me that doesn't say size 7. 😣

@Moose22 Yeah, I see what you mean. Wonder if they'll keep either the city or Thomas town permanently - they need something to fill the Kenilworth gap.

Btw - you were pretty accurate - rogue was a total no go. But the overlord fit so unbelievably well.

Almost forgot - wanted to put this to rest, so contacted cac - apparently the black overlord was stitched in gray, and the brown was originally stitched in a different color but was changed to light brown stitching, so that isn't a defect. They said the contrast isn't super apparent with the brown stitching, but the stitch is still lighter than the leather itself.

Did they say why they were too lazy to change the website pic? There is no lighting or flash setting I could do to make the pair I received make the stitching look lighter. Oh well, another close but no cigar build for me.

That one I don't recall.  It has a 7 sticker, but I believe that wasn't the size.  Unless it was a 7EEE.  I may pass by that Cohoe's this weekend.  If I do, I'll check.

Edit: Come to think of I THINK there was something odd about the soul.  Damn it, now I'm definitely going to have to swing by.
