They had been sitting in a box for 20+ years, so they looked a bit dull. After cleaning them, brushing them, and using a small amount of renovateur on them, they look ready to wear! They are pictured here next to my navy calf MacNeils.

Note: the navies are 9.5D, the shells 9.5E. The cordovan pair are significantly longer than the navy pair (which date from 2012). Has the MacNeil's design changed over the years?

There is a very very good chance that the specs have changed on the MacNeil in that amount of time. Great grab though!

On another note. I need more pictures of those Navy Macs! I've heard rumors and seen awful pictures, but never anything worth looking at.

Welcome to the forum!

Thanks! I'll use a better camera and lighting tomorrow. The blue shows up clearly only under bright sunlight (or studio strobes, but I need to set those up).

I'm going to pull the trigger on a strand double flap briefcase during the RDA sale.  No questions asked.

Navy Macneils? “Drooooolllll!” I would kill a man in Reno and then watch him die for a pair of Navy Macneils...maybe his kinfolk too for a pair in Navy Shell.

That said, an older pair (20 years! Wow!) of Macneils is probably cut more to the old-school “Gunboat” proportions—thicker welt, chunkier sole, and I'm guessing a bit more room in general what with the shell being a thicker hide than calf. I scored a pair of “Scotch”-colored Florsheim Cordovan Shell “Kenmoors” and I normally wear anywhere between and 11.5 to a 12.5—last depending. Those were an 11D and fit magnificently—but again, they're “Gunboats” that are supposedly cut to the classic Kenmore specs with that elephant-hide thick shell.

It doesn't make sense, but I've seen it plenty of times over the past couple of years.

We need more pictures. Incoming navy shell MacNeils. Would have been great if the 2.0 was available then but I'm not complaining.

Odin's Beard but those are magnificent looking! The lighter-colored welt/sole does limit your pairing choices, but son-of-a-bitch, I've got plenty that'd work with these.

Received the Fall 2015 Catalog today.

Does anyone else agree that this is their strongest season yet? There seems to be something to suit all tastes!

The catalog in general has been much better designed with a sense of flow through the pages.

Stopped by the Rock Center store on my way to classes. I think the suede Dundees look very nice. Much better than the previous two desert boot models (Gobi and Mojave). Dunno why they didn't just offer these from the start. I just wish it had a V-Tread sole. They should offer the Leeds in suede also! WITH BRASS EYELETS!!!!

Also, the First Ave boot looks great. Great pattern, great last!

I didn't care personally for Overlord, Cornwallis, or the Normandy. But that's just me.

Haha I was laughing out loud as I was reading this. I was thinking "he better not see my navy shell MacNeils as he might start shooting families in Reno".

And then I read further down...

Thanks! I was debating whether to go for a dressier welt and edge dressing but I know that I wouldnt be wearing my MacNeils with anything dressier than chinos and jeans. So I figured that a lighter welt and edge would be fine.

Mine are the corrected grain version. They were heavily used when I got them, so I mostly use them as beater/casual shoes. However, I've found them to be a very versatile styling, and they have become one of my favorites.

Incidentally, my corrected grain Sheltons are holding up well. They were in bad shape when I got them, but with regular cleaning and waxing, they looked a lot better. I've been wearing them weekly for about three years without noticeable deterioration.
