Guero AFAIK that is the standard Alt English II quarters treatment - can u see something out of the ordinary?


Guys I'm looking for a Vass box color besides black that goes well with grey worsted trousers. On the F last.

Oxblood, Antic Cognac, Navy, Bordeaux .. which of these would u prefer? Any color that def would not go? thx

Interesting. I didn't realize that. Should have done my homework. Five pairs on and still learning. So what is the name of my standard U-last oxford cap toes with no brogueing and without that treatment on the side?

I bought those old english II directly from Vass. I just emailed them through the main website and they got back to me. I paid by wire in Forint. It was all fairly easy. The turnaround was less than one month. It might have been faster if they had had my size in stock. But it didn't seem like much of a wait. It might take longer if you wanted a shoe with a less easily available leather, such as shell. You just have to decide in advance what you want. I found that this thread had almost all the information I needed.

The only real challenge is to figure out your size. I had tried on a U last shoe recently and decided that 43 U last was right. (I normally wear a 43.) Then the question was whether or not to go down a half size when moving to the F last. Some on this thread have done this. But the Vass rep advised me to stick with the same size, so I did. I think this is right, but as I said, I'm still thinking it over. I'm not sure that the 42.5 would be better, but I do seem to have a lot of room in the forefoot.

In case it helps anyone, my general US size for dress shoes is 9.5 or 10. With Aldens I wear a 9D Barrie last and a 9.5 Aberdeen. In european sizing I am always a 43.

are you talking about the toe box or the girth of your forefoot, which is a completely different parameter?

Hmm. I think I'm talking about the toe box. If the girth of the forefoot is the part of the shoe that goes over the ball of my foot I think that area of the shoe is close to fitting well. The ball of my foot can slide a little inside the shoe, although it seems to line up where it should be. And I do have plenty of room in front of my toes. But I am more concerned about having a little too much up and down motion for my toes and the joints that connect them to the foot (if that makes sense). This is what makes the toe box seem too bulky. I have a snug but comfortable fit from the heel through the arch, although I do have to lace the quarters completely together. As others have commented, there is not much arch support.

As I look at the shoes the forefoot just seems designed to be somewhat large relative to the rest of the shoe.
