ask him if he plans to bring your relationship to the next level... that usually leads to a break up.

Ya, I had a dude like this trail me around a year or so ago. Introduced by a mutual friend in Singapore before he moved to Vietnam, came up here, and basically just decided he hated everything except for his gf (now wife). Hated job. Hated social life. Hated martial arts trainer. The problem with this attitude is that 1. no one else cares and you only hurt yourself and 2. everyone comes to hate you. So he decided he had but one friend - Me. I didn't like him any more than everyone else did, and no one likes being around someone who is just always complaining...but yup...he would call me every other ******* day wanting to go out, wouldn't take the hint of like a zillion unreturned calls, and would randomly just wander by himself into my regular haunts n pull himself up a barstool.

Thankfully he was ultimately fired from the job he hated, unable to be hired by anyone else he hated, and moved back to France with his wife. Problem solved. Apparently they are coming back in June actually to do the Vietnamese-wedding-thing and he wants me to be in the wedding in some capacity. Jesus dude, take the hint.

I go to school with him too, so I can't really just ignore him, though I have tried. I'm a guy, so when faced with a problem or conflict I usually just make jokes (like all guys), what should I do?

Why is his happiness more important than your own? Aren't you miserable bothering with him still? Maybe if you start thinking about what's best for you you will be able to tell him you don't want to hang out anymore.

This

I did it with someone in high school. It worked. Lead all conversations to dead ends.
