Eh... to be honest, as I said, they are virtually the same boots except for the last, pull tabs and eyelets. And I prefer these in the Barrie since it is slightly more refined than the Trubalance, yet just as easily works with jeans. I also prefer speed hooks on my boots, so it works out 2/2 for me with regards to Alden x JCrew vs. LS.

Trubalance is sometimes said to be about a width larger than Barrie. For instance, people who take a 10E in Barrie can take a 10D in Trubalance. This isn't true of everyone, though -- the difference is pretty subtle. Going one-to-one for your size and width for Barrie and Trubalance is pretty safe.

I wear the same size in Barrie and Trubalance, and I have a slightly wider than normal foot.

Picked up a pair of Tan Calf NST Shoes from eBay, and just got it in the mail a few minutes ago. As the seller described, they are in brand new condition, possibly worn once or twice. Well I pulled them out of the box I noticed that the crepe sole was ROCK HARD. Can't even flex the shoe it is so stiff. It feels like there is a block of wood attached to the sole/heel. It appears that the crepe sole has completely dried out! (The uppers are not dried or cracked in anyway, they are in brand new condition).

So. . .is there any way to bring it back to life? Or is my only option to send them back to Alden for a resole at my cost?

have you tried heating it up? with a blow dryer or something of that sort? if you feel that you have no recourse other than sending it back to alden, I would just try wearing the shoes and see if the crepe comes back to life on its own, nothing to lose at this point.
