The color is nice but I do not care for the style of it. It is kind of odd especialy with those straps on the side, I prefer a more tradional looking briefcase myself.

First off, it's going to be your bag and you're going to have to live with it. Buy the one you want and if people don't like it . . .

Second, if you plan to use this bag for some time, I'm guessing that you'll want to finish school and then have it for your first job? Buy a bag that can take a beating.

For the ones you've posted:

Piquadro makes a similar, and IMO better looking bag. You can often find them on ebay.

If you have straps, man up and have straps. None of this fake snap buckle bullshit.

That Hartmann bag is great looking but probably more dressy than it sounds like where you are.

I've owned the custom hide army briefcase and liked it. Very durable and took a real beating for 2.5 years, still looks great and still in use by my brother.

I like the 1945 laptop bag a lot.

Looks industrial to me. Something in which the factory boy would bring lab reports.

Yes. I've considered brown and cognac. I choose on a bag-by-bag basis.

OP - Don't succumb to SF groupthink. Have you seen pics of how some of these guys dress? I am sure a good number of them are laughed at quietly by people too polite to hurt their feelings. Get what you like, and what works best for you. For a larger bag like the one in the first post, it would probably be better to go with a shade of brown though, rather than black. No matter what, it will look better than 98% of the crap I see people carrying to work every day.

I agree with Chargersfan.

Get something YOU like and can carry off. I bought something from Japan from a Japanese designer (which means world class quality and construction, without Dunhill brand prices) called "INDEED". They don't have a website, so I cannot point you to something specific. But it's a unique design, a large masculine bag made of hard hide leather, two shades of brown, and some nice jewelery touches on the chain etc. Excellent stitching.

It gets me more comments than a Dunhill or Zegna Diplomat would have. And it cost me less than 1/8th the price of a Zegna (about US$ 250).

If you're looking for a work bag though, I'd stay clear of "messenger bags". Get something that looks modern but also has both a handle and a sling holster. Most messenger bags are also small and won't hold a 15 inch laptop.

Encourage you to consider a brown one. Especially a medium brown. Will go with anything you wear.

Any suggestions for a bag that would fit into both business and "pleasure" environments?
