I bought the scholar 3-compartment bag with padded laptop compartment a few years ago. It's held up well, but I don't use it too often. A tad bulky. It also looks better without the strap (the strap is too thin and looks odd) - so you're giving up convenience for style.

What color did you get your scholar in? Can you suggest a better bag within the same price range?

+1. Looks too large and the buckles would be too cumbersome to undo.

I like it, although maybe not in black. I have purchased other items from customhide before and have been very satisfied with the construction and quality. I have been seriously considering the 1945 Army briefcase from them for a year now.

The round top kills it. Nothing wrong with the two vertical straps, that's sort of a traditional style, but the round top makes it look like Ralph Cramden's lunch box.
